Wintry Dec 8-10th Winter Storm

I find it interesting this winter storm occurred during a strong +NAO. I always thought -NAO was usually needed for most east coast winter storms...maybe that applies more for nor'easters rather than southern sliders?
Well our northern shortwave acting as a 50/50 low was well timed and diving off of a rather tall western ridge. We can certainly score that way. -NAO helps in that our pieces of energy don’t necessarily have to be timed as well. This has come to be my understanding of the two

I’m gonna make my statewide map for NC sometime later tomorrow, I’m curious what everyone here got in their backyards from both today and yesterday!
1”, and if I’m being very generous and doing lots of rounding up, maybe 1.5” with the first event. Today, probably a trace would be appropriate. Extreme SE Wake.

7.5" of snow/small amounts of sleet at my house in western Raleigh yesterday with an additional 0.5" of snow/sleet today. However some of the initial snow melted due to the changeover to rain last night.

The HRRR has backed off for a wintry mix in the Midlands and shifted it to... guess...

North Carolina... how surprising.

Welp, looks like the HRRR and NAM took our flizzard away this evening. :(

too warm at the bl and no deep moisture here

Shouldn't be surprised anymore, but it blows my mind how much of a screw job Columbia and the surrounding areas get every Winter. Showed a "ok" band over us all day, now it's trended to more moisture in NC. Where the rich get richer. Makes me sick sometimes. I get we aren't geographically favored and all that. But that didn't stop S. Miss, S Alabama, and Florida from getting winter weather multiple times last year. At least it's only early December...
Man I take this crap to personal with Mother Nature.

Most recent HRRR trying to go bonkers around Edenton, with over 3" right on the Albermarle Sound
Sort of isolated... Lol

Here is the highlight of the storm for us lol. I get to work from home so there is that.

...ICY SPOTS AND BLACK ICE EXPECTED TONIGHT AND TUESDAY
MORNING...

Temperatures tonight will drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s
across north and portions of central Georgia. The colder
temperatures combined with moisture left on surfaces from recent
precipitation will leads to slick or icy spots on roads as well as
other surfaces such as porches, decks, and sidewalks Tuesday
morning. The most likely locations for black ice on roadways will
be secondary or untreated roads as well as bridges and overpasses.
The threats for black ice and slick spots will diminish through
the morning hours as temperatures are expected to warm through
Tuesday afternoon to well above the freezing mark. Use caution and
allow extra time to reach your destination if traveling late
Tonight and Tuesday morning.

Here's my preliminary snow & sleet accumulation map for this storm in NC after spending several hours combing thru storm reports, social media, personal communications, pictures, etc. The statewide mean looks like it's somewhere in the ballpark of 5-6" and this storm may have an argument to be the largest this early in the season for the state of NC, even if you dig all the way back to 1895.

The Wake County gradient was absolutely absurd as locals are obviously well aware of.
