My kids' school district becoming a hot spot. Mass quarantines on Friday at high school with another one at the middle school today. One teacher actually said we are having an outbreak. 13 kids either sick or in quarantine in my son's PE class out of 25-30 boys. How he is not one of them I do not know. They play basketball in groups of 6 and 3 were out today. According to our reopening plan we are supposed to be at least hybrid since our county is red but I guess we are rolling the dice for now. Neighboring schools are going virtual it seems every day because of outbreaks

It's November. Cases will continue to rise throughout the northern mid-latitude countries and states as cold, dry air filters in from N and NW. New York metro has kept it at bay during the month, but they will soon realize an uptick in the city as conditions start "beginning to feel a lot like Christmas everywhere you go." The history of seasonal pandemics like the flu continue to be the best guide on where and when infection rates will continue to rise.

My husband and oldest son just got positive Covid test results. :-( Me and my other 4 sons have been varying degrees of sick this past week, too, so I’m sure we all have it. Me and my sons have weathered it fairly well, but my husband has been quite sick - thankfully I think he’s on the mend now, he’s on day 8 of symptoms. Interestingly enough, none of us have had fevers - my husband is the only one with a severe cough, the rest of us mostly are just super fatigued with headaches. I’m dizzy tonight, but that’s my only truly concerning symptom so far. We have been SO careful this whole time, too. My husband took one of my sons to a neighbor’s house last Friday in preparation for our son making some money doing some puppy sitting. They were there for *maybe* 15 minutes, outside half that time. I *almost* told them to wear their masks, but thought, nah, it’s just down the street for a few minutes, I’m being way too cautious. Apparently not, this thing must be *super* contagious! Be careful and vigilant, everyone. We are doing ok, but it’s been no fun, for sure!

Glad to hear they are getting better. Our fevers were minimal at most. I mostly was fatigued and had a multiple day headache that ibuprofen wouldn’t touch so it sounds familiar. My wife had more symptoms and both kids had severe pink eye.

I read that Trump may fire him, but he wants to wait til after the election because Fauci is more popular than him and he was worried that firing him would hurt his election chances.

Trump possibly firing Fauci because he did a poor job per Trump. Does this bother anyone other than me?

I have no confidence in Fauci. Lost me several months back. Has zero to do with me being Trump suporter /polotics.

On another note: local Mall in Winston Salem just filed for bankruptcy along with several others. K@W filled for bankruptcy.

Also how Ironic is this. Be interesting to see if this theory bares out tonight. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Sad about Haynes. Last mall I still went to.

I tested negative for IgG antibodies through LabCorp. Some of you may remember I had symptomatic Covid (along with loss of taste and smell) and was tested positive on April 11th.

My personal experience just reaffirms, for me, the reports about waning antibodies in Covid-19 patients after 4 months. Mine were undetectable and below any helpful threshold...and I believe this result, as the blood draw antibody test from LabCorp has 100% sensitivity and 99.8% specificity.

This makes a vaccine all that more important and the herd immunity argument BS. I was actually hopping for my IgG’s to be positive but now, like many who haven’t gotten it, I’m back to square one. I’ve never let my guard down thinking I had immunity and will continue not to do so.

I hope this sheds light on the importance of masks. It spreads so easily indoors without one. Also if you’re not socially distanced outdoors it can spread as well. There’s direct evidence of that. People let their guard down and regret it later, but that’s human nature. It’s difficult because you want their childhood to be normal, but you’re making a choice.

I hope your family recovers and can teach others to be careful! Saw a lot of families without masks on Halloween, I’m sure thanksgiving will be our next super outbreak...one of the largely celebrated holidays where we’re in intimate settings indoors with not only close families but extended.

The scary thing is, in talking further with my husband and son, turns out they *did* wear masks when they went to see the puppy. The neighbor (who did not yet know she was getting sick) did not, but it was her house so that is totally understandable. My husband and son took their masks off for an extremely brief minute or two - just two minutes, no more! - when the puppy freaked out and they thought he needed to see their faces. It was literally that quick, this thing is just SO contagious. Though maybe in that kind of environment (home of a contagious person) the mask wouldn’t have stopped it anyway?

We have all been quite, quite sick, especially my husband, who almost ended up in the hospital. We are still in recovery mode, and it feels like we will be for another week or two. It’s been just awful!

Depressing news about your antibody test - was so hoping the positive out of all of this might be some sort of immunity. We’d always planned to keep doing what we are doing (masks and distancing, as carefully as we can - which wasn’t enough, sadly), but I was hoping maybe I could worry a bit less. :(

Just a terrible, terrible virus. Everyone take it seriously and stay safe!

My daughters school just confirmed it’s 8 positive case in the last three weeks

We flew back from Disney yesterday and a lady had a screaming crying 18 month old that she allowed to roam free dragging a slobber covered pacifier around over everything. Never cleaned up behind the kid once. Being a parent seeing child that fussy made me think he wasnt feeling good.

Since we live in the same general area, B'ham metro, do you mind sharing the school system she is in?

My local school district went back to hybrid today for grades 7-12 after multiple positive tests. Currently around 13 positives with 150 plus in quarantine in those grades. 6th grade which is at the middle school too is still full schedule. My 6th grader has been emailing me this morning saying he's hearing of at least one more positive 6th grader today. Our town has been very lucky with low cases until the last 2 weeks. It seems our luck has run out

Any deaths or hospitalization for students in your area? As of last Friday ZERO students have died or been sent to the hospital in my area. Hopefully y’all are the same.

As far as I know, no hospitalizations among students. I do have several friends positive but so far they are still at home recovering

It's important to note that this was a study of 87 people. The part that stands out to me is their findings about inactive coronaviruses particles in the GI tract, because I've read that animal studies have demonstrated corona stays dormant and more deadly versions mutate within the host's gut.

From the article: "The scientists went on to show that tiny amounts of coronavirus, or protein fragments from inactive virus particles, lurked in patients’ intestines and apparently helped to maintain the immune system’s memory. The remnants of the virus are not thought to be harmful."

"[M]ost infections are with relatively harmless strains of feline coronavirus. Unfortunately, this initial benign infection may later mutate to cause FIP in some cats. Even with the more harmful strains, apparently healthy cats may be carriers of the virus, and may shed the virus without ever showing signs of disease. Many cats that develop FIP have no history of contact with other cats showing clinical signs of FIP. The virus can remain dormant or inactive in the body for months to years before the cat eventually develops disease.

Once disease develops, most individuals deteriorate rapidly, although some cats remain normal for several weeks. Unfortunately, the disease will eventually result in death in almost every case.

I have lost several cats to this awful virus. Worked at an animal shelter and saw many die from this. Someday a vaccination for I hope.

I would like the opinion of Jon and tramadoc and any others who are in the medical field.

I haven't felt good for 3 days. I can smell and taste just fine. I haven't had any fever yet and I haven't been coughing more than I typically do. But I am have been constantly fatigued with about 60% of my normal energy level. I had diarrhea for about 3 day but that seems to be a little better today. I have a slight sore throat but it's not bad. I am older (65) and am very healthy except for a light case of COPD.

Could I possibly have Covid or is it just some kind of intestinal virus? Should I get tested or wait to see if it goes away in a couple of days? I don't think I have knowingly been exposed to anyone who has it. I am staying away from people to be cautious. I feel like just laying around all the time but I keep pushing through the malaise. Opinions?

So people all over the country were in massive gatherings with no social distancing celebrating the Biden win. Notre Dame just beat Clemson and had 20k people storm the field. Nobody cares anymore it appears lol. Trump was getting killed for hosting rallies and the same people mocking him were praising people in the streets celebrating today. I’m living life normal from now on.

I like wearing a mask, just for the sake of it. Smarter countries like Japan do it in 'normal times'. Just thinking of retiring my Tennessee Orange mask for Notre Dame instead.

Get tested. Better to be safe than sorry.

I get your point.. but show us some clear photos.. you will clearly see an overwhelming majority of Biden supporters wearing masks at least.
In order to get into the football game you had to have a mask... there’s people in both groups not wearing them. I can pull 1000s of tweets of Biden people not wearing mask, passing bottles, passing blunts, ect. They have no respect for the virus after complaint about it for months.

not going to really put up an argument on this.. it is a bit hypocritical of Dems.

Texas will probably exceed New York in Covid deaths by year's end:

They've been exceeding New York for a long time with Influenza deaths. They have 6 of the 20 most populated cities country and they have a much drier climate than California or New York in winter time, particularly the western part of the state. It's a lot of dense areas with diverse populations across a huge state, where Covid could inundate a hospital very quickly. And people are actually still traveling to Texas during coronavirus. In fact, they continue to flood into the state. I doubt they catch up. Cuomo gave the state a huge lead when he sent all those Covid patients to kill old people at nursing homes.

I honestly don't want to be anywhere near those cats. The type of coronavirus they have will kill many children if it spreads to humans, and apparently, a human-to-cat jump, either respiratory or fecal-to-mouth, has caused cat immune systems to be so stressed to the point where their dormant, enteric viruses are being activated. We might see two new species of coronavirus out of Europe and the US before we even get a vaccine to the public.

It might be extremely dangerous to allow cats to be adopted out of pounds right now. I got my dog from a pound, but I think an animal that people let outside can send and receive viruses back and forth between humans and other species. We're literally screwed right now. There are so many growing cases where people are experiencing worse gatrointestinal issues.

Plus they’re not social distancing. I’m absolutely not and never was a Trump fan (I’m happy Biden won and thought he gave an excellent speech) and hate how Trump has been handling the virus, but the double standard of the media coverage of both the protests from a few months ago and the recent Biden/Harris celebrations vs how much they complained about the Trump rallies is way off the charts stupid and very insulting to our intelligence.

No S###! It's not like they weren't doing this 7-8 months ago when Jews wearing masks wanted to observe their religion, and anti-lockdown protestors were at the Michigan capital. De Blasio is still targeting the religious Jews, and that's why Democrats lost the modern orthodox in Rockland County, NY. Now Europeans are starting protest the lockdowns, and the media in those countries are scapegoating the right-wing, and censoring opposition opinions and information like they did here in the US. How many people even know that the WHO reversed its opinions on lockdowns? Tens of thousands of people in Paris (I've heard over 100k) were stuck in a 100 mile traffic jam just so they could escape Macron's measures, and the media don't even want touch the journalist that was killed or the teacher that was beheaded by Muslim terrorists. Those people are going to S### themselves when parties like the National Front takeover their country.

Exactly. And that's the point with all of this stuff. There is a clear double standard. The left acts like it doesn't exist, but it does. If this were a Trump rally, for example, it would be on the front page of every outlet, except Fox. Biden? Not a peep. Same with everything else. It's fine, but don't tell me it doesn't exist, because it's crystal clear, unless you have your head in the sand. It's one of the main sources of fuel for the growing division in our country. Politics are corrupt. The media is corrupt. Big tech is corrupt. And they're mostly aligned in one direction.
