That's most definitely not what is being said or implied here. Smh

It isnt?

He is educated and quite smart. I’m pretty damn sure that he has taken into account any little thing that might pop into that know it all brain of yours. You don’t need to second guess what a man who is smarter than all of us about this disease has to say.You have a lot to learn.

So we have mentioned possibly locking this thread before, this is the final warning. If you want to discuss things as civil beings please be my guest, if you want to devolve into a poop throwing match its over. Thanks mgnr

Please do it already, or make a banter COVID-19 thread with limited moderation

Wait, you mean to tell all of us there's something wrong with trusting someone who has decades upon decades of experience in dealing with viruses and over some random joe that can't comprehend basic math on a weather forum? You're pathetic

Oh please. I never said that at all. I said he implied that when I expert says something, no one should question it and if that is the logic we use we might as well only post news articles.

As far as being pathetic, to each their own opinion.

Umm yea you literally just did.

"..there is no sense in discussing the virus, politics or weather unless you are an expert."

I strongly suggest reading more & posting less from now on.

Things have really gotten bad in GA, more so than I would've ever imagined. I know we talked the reason was in part due to ATL being a huge hub, but something else has to be going on. Does anyone have any ideas? I hope my home state can recover.

People aren't willing to listen and social distance plays a big part in it. I'm not going to get political but Kemp seems to be downplaying it himself and when people put their trust in that it only gets worse. And on top of that, we're limited on how much we can test. As of today, 21% of the tests return positive as they're prioritizing poorly. People with symptoms or are missing one are being turned away because they don't meet all the criteria or have a special pass to be tested like emergency services does. We need more testing and a better system of testing in Georgia and Georgians to take this seriously or it's just going to get worse for all of us as well as drag this out until later this year.

I can see, that I think that's why Cooper ordered the shelter in place. Probably a lot of pressure from counties and the fact that GA, AL, and SC have been hit pretty hard. That's why we need more bipartisanship. I've said this many times, we can't defeat this thing if everyone turns this into a political debate instead of scientific debate.

2 or 3 huge funerals/church gatherings is where at least a lot of the early ones get traced back to. Apparently someone in the crowd probably was in Washington and had exposure, as I think the funerals were either in February, or not long before the first death in Washington. The most affected areas by those church deals are apparently the Atlanta metro, Albany, and I think parts of Bartow County (maybe also Atlanta metro but I'm not totally sure here). Atlanta of course also has the major airport and who knows who came in.

Albany (the hardest hit besides the Atlanta metro), also had a marathon I think, and then Phoebe apparently initially botched things to start out by saying that health workers that don't have symptoms, but test positive should continue working.

Was going to Home Depot to pick up a couple of items but turned around when I saw the parking lot which was fuller than a normal spring weekend. Literally people spilling Out of the store in line to check out. No way that’s a good idea. No more stores for me except groceries.

Hey frogman Sandbar Did what I just do bring back memories? Always one guy in the unit who stirs up $hit, steps to the side, and watches everyone else get heated at one another over something he said. I’m that guy. They forget the original guy who sits back with a smug grin on his face and a warmth in his heart. LOL

This is the kind of crap that has to stop. I understand that people are going stir-crazy, myself included. But stores need to start limiting how many people shop at once. You don't have to bring your whole family to go to Walmart or Lowe's. If you go, go alone. That would help with overcrowding and would greatly reduce the spread.

Georgia’s problem is that if you look at the overall health of state it isn’t great. You have several areas that are considered severely economical disadvantaged. Which that translates into more people having underlying health problems.
Albany’s problem is they had two funerals one day. At both those funerals was a man from the Atlanta area that didn’t realize he was viral shedding when he was present. He late was diagnosed in the Atlanta area after returning. They can trace the first numbers to those who events.
Cobb County’s issue with their numbers are they had 3 daycare centers hit, 4 nursing homes, and several schools. Considering the transmission rate of this virus is high it doesn’t take much to start a domino effect.

At BUDS they are called instructors!

I am still trying to figure out why GA has over twice as many deaths as TX. 30 mil live in TX and 10 mil in GA. Shouldn't states with more people have more deaths ?

Indeed - Dougherty County (where Albany is located, for you non-Georgians) has an appalling plethora of underlying health issues that already existed in the population.

I think it was already widespread by the time any measures took place. That one church in Cartersville had over 40 infected and most of them were exposed two weeks before anyone started distancing.

I'm not a GA expert, but ATL's density might be a big part of the cause. Yea a lot of people complain about it being a sprawling mess, but it's also quite dense in the center compared to most big cities in the South. The biggest factor right now in spread appears to be density.

Thankfully, none of our metros have density anywhere near what we're seeing in NYC or most Midwest centers. (Except maybe New Orleans)

Mortality is a function of infected population not total population. Maybe Texas doesn’t have as many infected? If we knew what the IFR truly is, we would know where we are on immunity level based on number of deaths. I still don’t know why we aren’t sampling our population to determine this number. At this point the failure to test properly is moving beyond incompetence.

Each state has an official website, but this is the macro view, if anyone is interested going forward ...

and another pretty good interactive map ...

Thank you sir!

I did some quick calculations by state on how many of those tested so far tested positive. Here are %'s:

NY, 33.55%
GA, 22.13%
FL, 9.37%
TX, 8.12%
NC. 5.49%

I wouldn't read too much into that yet because the distribution of tests is likely heavily skewed. But that GA number is a bit alarming.

If individual states don't start taking more responsibility than that's when you will see the federal gov't step in. Trump already said he's considering quarantining NY, NJ, and CT. GA could very well be next if those numbers keep climbing like that.

Florida is running major interference on the 3 Interstates into the State ...

It's probably better to track urns in China than listen to Beijing's propaganda figures...

Assuming the urn count is true, which I would believe more than the Chinese government, that would mean likely 400k or more probably had it if you extrapolate off of Italy’s death rate and 800k or so if it is half of that which is much more realistic imo.

We here in Alachua County are into the 1st week of SIP; stores can only have 1 customer per 1000 sq. feet of indoor space; all businesses are closed except "essential"; since Mass was cancelled for the duration, I went to Publix at 8:00 AM today; line around the store with folks at 6' intervals; sounds horrible ... except everyone was polite, calm, did their shopping, left, and each cart was sanitized before it went back inside ... not fun, but honestly, not bad given the potential alternatives ...

Not getting political, but with Georgia being a state with a republican gov. He’s following Trumps lead, thus not a whole lot of pressure being applied from Washington

FL has a Republican Governor, "hand picked" by Trump ... and he's doing a great job so far ... has closed what needs to be, empowered localities to take more stringent methods if they deem necessary, is stopping all private vehicle traffic at the state line from infected areas ... This is not a political statement ... just an observation about "home rule" that seems to be working, given the circumstances ...
