Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

That is a crazy read if you want to hear what it's like inside an Italian hospital. Not for the faint of heart. But it's why this needs to be taken so serious.

Yeah, that's the concern here cause it could easily happen. There is a shortage of beds in the US for intensive care. If the system gets overwhelmed there is going to be a real problem treating those cases that need it. This will also affect people with other conditions that end up requiring that level of support as there will be no spot for them either.

Yeah necrosis is mostly associated with nasty bacterial infections, Now viral pneumonia can allow bacteria to grow in your chest since your immune system is shot, but that can happen with influenza/coronavirus and even a few adenoviruses (type 7 especially)

Thought this was the flu and a nothingburger for people under the age of 60?

For the most part it is like the flu for under 60. As per the article a day or so ago, Italy has not had anyone below 50 die and only a 0.01 death rate for 50-59. I do think SK has had a few deaths below 60 though.

Italian doctors have warned medics across Europe to “get ready” for coronavirus in a letter revealing up to 10 per cent of all those infected with coronavirus need intensive care, with hospitals becoming overwhelmed.

It's interesting Italy's hospitals didn't get overwhelmed with the flu? But this is POTUS last tweet:

"So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that! "

Considering all the other nations, Italy is by far an outlier at this point. SK’s Critical % is 0.0048 and Germany’s is 0.0017. France has just serious condition listed which is currently at 0.017.

Just something to think about. What if business and all start shutting down for 2 weeks or longer. How many don’t have the money to cover not working for 2 Weeks or more? Will people get desperate and start robbing? Will a collapse of society happen? What about the ones that will incur medical bills they can’t pay?

I wouldn’t call the flu a nothingburger, it can hit people pretty hard no matter the age. I know a few people who had the flu recently, in their 20s and healthy and it hit them hard. They were out of work for over a week with a full recovery taking almost 2 weeks.

Well some of us have said for over a month that we shouldnt focus on this as just an illness and that we needed to view this as a threat to society. Me and @Rain Cold have harped on this very scenario for weeks.

With only 110k ventilators. What happens if possible estimates by early May of 200k needing ventilators comes to fruition. Who lives who dies.

The US has 50 million or so people 65 or older, I would imagine many of them have some degree of inherent underlying medical issues most 65 and older folks do...

My wife works at a doctors office ( which currently makes me kinda nervous ) she said they have had a few patients this week come in presenting flu like symptoms and testing negative for the flu. They do not have test to test for Corona so they have to refer them to the health dept but they dont have test either, the entire state of NC does not even have enough test on hand to test 500 people....

I am sure they triage, if they have 1 ventilator and 2 patients one who is 88 and one who is 62 then you put the 62 yr old on it and do the best you can for the 88 yr old.

Worries myself and family, siblings all in the higher risk category.

This image does have a lot of meaning tho. 1) it’s being hyped too much 2) cure rate is high 3) contagion factor is lower 4) people should just wash their hands more like in a flu season and stay home lol6FA8E1AA-2E2A-47BE-A269-124B331426A7.jpeg

The Administartion has some time ago devied out a 52 page plan for coronovirus per NY govt health official. She was being interviewed on radio. Step 1 was to block folks coming from countries with outbreaks. Step 2 identify, isolate cases here locally, quarentine. Step 3,which is where they are at now is to limit social gatherings. Probably hear about this tonight at 630 press conference
Anyone see this govt doc ,share link. I aint quit connected enough to the govt to have received my copy lol. Be interested to read.
She said they have followed it lock step.

Actually is spreads much easier and faster. For people over 60 the death rate is higher from what I see. Is it hyped too much? I think way to early to say that. Plus sure seems other countries are being aggressive in trying to contain it for something that is just another flu. Tell that to everyone that has lost someone to it. Honestly I’m sick of hearing it’s just like the flu. It’s NOT!

Maybe you will be right Bird. You sure seem to have an attitude of nothing to see here with your posts. Maybe this time and next time there is nothing to see here but one time it will not be so nothing to see here.

This is about as believable as the world being flat. Complete false information that contributes nothing positive to the situation.

The self important attitude of Americans that think this virus has anything to do with the election is laughable. Italy, south Korea, and all the other countries that are being affected by this pandemic are acting to protect their citizens not hurt Trump or Biden or any politician

Curious what do we know of Australia cases? It’s summer there right?

Not to be necessarily political, but the United States is handling this virus horribly. We should’ve had enough testing kits when the first case in the U.S. was discovered...

And how do you propose that should have been accomplished? Developing an accurate test kit for a novel virus isn't done at the drop of a hat. The virus wasn't isolated until Jan. 7th and gene sequencing data - necessary for the development of diagnostic kits - wasn't publicly released by China until Jan. 12th (censorship by the Beijing government didn't help matters). CDC began developing kits soon after, but it was nearly impossible for them to have had a working kit developed and ready for distribution by the time the first case appeared in the US nine days later.

The Aussie government is reporting 80 confirmed cases and 3 deaths as of today. They say that 15 of the initial cases in Australia "all had a direct or indirect travel history to Wuhan, China".

So why could every other developed nation do it faster?

Payroll tax cuts being proposed by Trump are definitely a major contributor to the spike in Dow futures. We are already running a massive budget deficit so this will certainly not help, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Payroll taxes should have been reduced for lower income workers long ago - they are the most regressive part of our income tax system.

Wish i had linked the article but readwhere it stays airborne for 30 minutes and can travel 14. Twice the recommended spacing of 6 feet from infected persons.
