Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

My parents live down that way and they told me that Florida said they were going to stop releasing numbers. Also medical examiners have been asked to stop reporting. https://www.businessinsider.com/florida-officials-stop-publishing-coronavirus-death-toll-data-2020-4
This seems concerning, at best........
It is most true; I posted an article on that up the thread yesterday, and a related comment in the Political thread last night ... concerning, disconcerting and absolutely absurd ... I did not see it but my wife told me that about an hour ago Fox said FL is now leading the nation in one of the key infection statistics ... regardless, the State is seemingly on a blind man's path to Phase 2, STAT (being a medical term, pun definitely intended) ....

104* now. One more evening update poss. for Wilkesboro Tyson. Number is expected to triple over the next 1 to 2 weeks and impact neighboring counties.

In my neighborhood it sure seems like the quarantine has ended, block party’s left and right.
We have a mask order in Durham County and yet when I was in Blaze Pizza yesterday, almost no one had one on, including the workers.

I think the prevailing wisdom is that people are going to change their behavior after lockdowns are lifted. I don't think that's going to be the case at all, outside of a very short time. We are going to go back to the way we were doing things before. Rapidly.

Our county has seen quite an increase in cases in the past six days but nearly all of them are connected to the Tyson plant in Wilkesboro. Otherwise, there is very little "community transmission" going on. Today I went to Wal-Mart and Home Depot without a mask--but most people were wearing them. Anyway, I think we need to start opening up here.

I think some things are here to stay. Shielding between customers and cashiers being one of them.

Yeah, I doubt they remove that equipment. But there's no shielding between you and the bag person standing right next to you. And when the cashier handles all the food you just coughed over, at the end of the day, I'm not sure how effective a small shield is going to end up being. I suppose it probably makes people feel better, though.

Wilkes hits 120 cases. Surpasses Iredell County which has roughly 50,000+ more in population.

One amazing thing to see with this pandemic is how people and businesses adapt. Online shopping/ groceries, plastic panels between customer and cashier, hell even American Idol is done through the homes of contestants and judges!

The sad thing to see is what couldnt adapt , places that were long on the decline such as department stores . Or places that weren’t afforded the option to adapt be it because they were non essential businesses or couldn't afford to adapt.

So something isn’t adding up. Family member after family member. Population is only 60k here. Not even close contact.

My dad said Wilkes regional isn’t taking COVID19 patients. Must travel out of County. He’s been in bed for a few days with chills and cough.

I’m really curious about how this will affect utilities. The place where I work has decided like many to not turn off the water for people who fail to pay due to the pandemic. This will probably go on for another month or two at least.

I am curious about what will happen when those who don’t pay have to catch back up. I could definitely see this pushing us farther into socialism in that regard. After not being responsible for the utility bill for three or more months it could really be regarded as a “right” and the government should have to provide it free.

Might as well. Seems most people are not abiding anymore anyways. No need to punish small business if we are gonna let the big.box store stay open.
In 2-4 weeks everyone is going to be asking wHy AlL tHe NeW cAsEs? I went to lowes yesterday to look for a new fridge since mine is on the fritz, I was the only person with a mask. Unreal.

Yeah I'm not sure it's the right thing as far as slowing the spread but if people are gonna ignore the orders then we shouldnt hold businesses to different standards. It sucks and it may cost lives and that's BS but some people all hell bent on going open full steam ahead.

The optics of allowing hundreds of people in Hobby Lobby but preventing churches from gathering is not a good look. I’ve been supportive of the Governor so far, but if he retains the stay at home today while allowing Hobby Lobby to be open, then I might have to consider doing something I really don’t want to do.

Agreed. I bet within the next 30 days the face covering/mask topic gets really hot. I honestly didn't feel comfortable in anyway. Then people wonder why we had to shut things down

I tried the N95 mask but where I work the temp goes over 100 in direct sunlight. Couldn’t breath. Got two weeks paid off. Hope when I return I can use something better than N95 that allows some breathing.

Seriously though do you work out doors or in a factory with no temp regulations?

No temp regulations. Sometimes they will spray water on the trailers but once a day doesn’t help much. Rainy days are the best to work.

If temps exceed 115 managers sometimes come by with free popsicles.

Im not gonna lie. Sometimes i completely forget about the virus when im out in public. I rarely see people wearing masks, and I have to consciously remind myself to stay 6 feet apart from people. I've gotten with 1 or 2 feet of people more times than I would like to admit.
