Misc Cold Season Complaining

Thank you for the clarification...tired of all the bashing of the Doge and what they've done in the weather community. When obvious changes are needed the long run we will all benefit hopefully.
Then go ahead and put me on ignore, because you'll never hear the end of it from me. There is no way anyone will benefit from NWS cuts and it's just your ignorance (that you put on full display with your complete misinterpretation of the bolded part of the sentence you replied to) on the subject that would make you say that.

Frankly, if you think this is warranted and a good decision we shouldn't talk on a weather forum because we share nothing in common and I do not respect your opinion at all. That goes for anyone else too, regardless of who you are: mod, admin or otherwise. Anyone who has spent a modicum of time in this field should know better than this, regardless of your political leanings.

Experienced, very valuable mets lost their jobs because a group of pencil-neck geeks led by a socially inept billionaire are going around slashing programs haphazardly. All the experts are rallying against the damage being done to NOAA/NWS right now for a damn good reason.

100% agree with all of this. This only hurts the NWS and bigtime at that.

Hang around until Friday night if you think there are a lot of people now. Over under a dozen bridal parties.

I don't think I've ever had a desire to visit Nashville tbh. Heck we were in the North Georgia mountains in October 🤣 that was close enough

32 years ago we were experiencing the aftermath of the storm of the century! Where were you?

I was in the Atlanta area a few miles N of the Perimeter (Dunwoody), where I experienced a full-blown blizzard. The wind was so strong with The Storm of the Century that the snow hurt a little! There were many outages. And with temps in the 20s the windchills were bitter. Never experienced anything like it since. So, it wasn’t just the large amounts, which were hard to measure due to drifting. My rough estimate is 8”.

Do you have a rough estimate of amounts in the Roswell area? For those who don’t know, Roswell is centered roughly 5 miles N of my location in Dunwoody and roughly 10 miles N of the Perimeter.

I was in Cherokee County. It started sleeting about sunset and my dad made me get my bike out of the yard. We ate and after watching Family Matters turned the yard light on and it was dumping snow with several inches already. My uncle measured 18" but it was hard to measure with the drifting. I hope to live to see another one like that but maybe keep power. I didn't know for years later that downtown Atlanta didn't turn to snow until 6am or so. We got almost 12 hours more snow than them so I was lucky to be just NW enough.

Freshman year at the University of South Alabama. It was amazing to see snow there much less in March. Whole campus went nuts. We got 3 or 4 inches but boy it was a quick melter.

Blizzard 93—lived in High Point a few miles south of PTI airport. Experienced all 4 precip types (rn, frz rn, ip, sn). Woke up to .5’’ on ground Sat morning (sn/ip mix) with mostly frz rn/ip throughout the day until storm really got cranking... Ended up with 5’’ total.

Of note, only Blizzard Warning I’ve ever remembered in NC outside of the mountains (I think as far east as Alamance Co) Soil was completely saturated from previous rain events, resulting in trees uprooting and falling due to weight of ice and winds (as opposed to snapping branches which is much more common in ice storms). I saw a few large oak trees that didn’t survive this one.

I’d love to experience it again, although I think the Triangle got shafted though. (something like 2’’ of slush, lol)

Where did you go Brent?

I took my parents up to Helen for a couple days

Oh and the blizzard of 93 in east Alabama my memory is a bit spotty on it but I still can't get past the story about the dude at the radio station where we lived not going home for 5 days....

I was in Roswell as well during the blizzard and set my alarm for 3am since that was when the heaviest band rolled in. I was glad I got out of bed since the flakes were massive with some thunder snow as well. ❄️⛈️

Hey yall, the spc can’t shift their graphics anymore to the north, south, east, or west. They are locked in exactly 48 hours out. 🤪

💩 🔥

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I also experienced thunder snow in Dunwoody on 3/13/1993, one of the only and quite possibly the only time I’ve ever experienced it. The roads remained terrible in many areas for a couple of days afterward from what I recall thanks to it being so cold during and especially after when it dropped well down into the teens. Just an amazing experience, especially for mid-March!

Pretty Good bet they will still be issuing warnings and watches. They can't stop or change the weather Shettley.
Plus I still got you to warn me about the impending drought and heatwaves along with Birdman for my winter weather advisories. Which have become non existent.
