Misc Cold Season Complaining

I’m irrationally concerned the ensembles aren’t showing higher snow means. They are also a mix of like 5 different windows/storms with none of them particularly standing out.

On the bright side, it looks like the odds of at least getting a few flakes and/or a novelty trackable event is extremely high.

I promised myself after this Winter to never let my emotions control me regarding the weather again. That Winter did a number on me. Literally every city in the Southeast scored except Columbia that Winter

At least y’all have experienced a relatively recent jackpot with Feb 2010. I live in a county bordering the NC mountains and haven’t seen 6 inches of snow in my lifetime(I’m 39), and of course don’t remember jan88.

No doubt, but one day it’s gonna happen for me. I hope!

What’s even weirder is I’ve done relatively well with total events and mean snowfall. I have averaged 3 inches per winter over the last 30 years, even including the last few winters.

I'm in Pickens county myself and I'm only 51 But I've seen 6" of snow quite a few times. Where have you been??

Clemson. The city of Pickens has gotten a few 6+ events, Clemson hasn’t. I’ve gotten 5.75 inches with January 2011 and 5 inches with that january2022 storm. Every other event has been less than 5 inches here.

I have heard about an area up there in the far corner of state (your area) from others about how y’all have got screwed with some bigger storms.
 
I know it’s been discussed adnauseum, but I was 14 or so and witnessed Jan88’
It was glorious! Still the best single snowstorm I’ve ever experienced, and this is my 5th winter in Iowa

Most of it has just been bad luck. But sometimes we are screwed by slightly warmer surface temps due to lower relative elevation and proximity to the lakes. That’s not typically the biggest fail factor though.

Every storm is different, but most of the “big ones” that we’ve gotten minima’d on weren’t related to mesoscale features.
 
There is a pocket in northern oconee/Pickens county that can get extremely screwed in wedge events though. That area around lake keowee/jocassee gets sheltered from the northeast surface feed a little bit and it creates a “warm” eddy so to speak. They can be 36 and raining while Clemson is 28 and snowing.

It’s odd though bc the wedge can work extremely in their favor at 925-875mb so they can also sometimes stave off a warm nose and remain all snow
/sleet much longer than us from the wedge event. Even though their surface temps are warmer.

Well I can tell you I'm right between Jocassee and Keowee Sunset Area. And I've seen quite a few 6+ Snows so I don't agree with this.

Oh for sure, there are many storms where you have more mesoscale things going in your favor compared to Clemson.

Also, there’s been several of our more recent big storms where the main thing that mattered is just regular latitude related to an 800mb warm nose. And you’ve been on the good side of that random dividing line.

Warm/Wet Tropical Atlantic + Cold Pacific is a killer for the New Mexico Summer Monsoon. Weakens the Azores-Bermuda High & strengthens the "Death Ridge" over the Four Corners. Yay, time for another summer with a 1-2 month long stretch of 100-105F days.

Putting the cart before the horse here obviously but there any way we can have designated play by play posters, it disrupts board harmony when people are posting a full emotional spectrum to one gfs run lol. Just need a few straight shooters telling it like it is
