Misc Cold Season Complaining

This is going to sound stupid, but the GFS (and SREF, etc.) precip depiction just makes sense. Hard to believe there's going to be basically no precip out there in the western Piedmont and even foothills to me. I'm not sure if the CAMS are overdosing on convection in the Gulf. Putting this in banter because this isn't exactly sound meteorological reasoning here. 😂

the wife just texted me that WRAL said totals would be cut down due to convection. Good lord 🤦‍♂️

If people hadn't hyped this as a historic storm here I don't think I would even care that we only got 2-3 inches but they did 🤣

I mean it was still more snow than anything last winter... Sadly

So Euro was mostly right? This was yesterday’s 18z

One day we will stare at a slug/blob of yellow reflectivity that’s all snow moving in from the SW. it’ll happen eventually

Like I said last night …. The empire that is the Western Piedmont and Foothills (Minus Charlotte Proper) will rise again one day soon. I just wanna feel normal, I need one more time to be looking at 6” on the ground while seeing tweets from uptown ppl yelling at -- bc they’re sleeting with 1.5” so I can know the world is yet again on the proper axis. All the while Big Frosty laughing at me 50 miles to the North with 12” bc he didn’t mix with sleet

Charlotte has literally had the worst luck when it comes to snow. It’s been such a constant smack in the face, over and over again. I really thought we had a chance, especially a few days ago. But once again, we are continuing to get robbed. I’m cheering for everyone else, but man, at least Raleigh got 2-3 inches of snow last go-around. Heck, we’ve barely seen a dusting here. We’re definitely not alone; I know a lot of us are in the same boat. But this is just rough. I really hope things turn around, but I’m not taking it to the bank.
Once again, somehow we’ve managed to be this year:

Too SE for anything more than a dusting
Too NW for anything more than a dusting
And are about to be
Too SW for anything more than a dusting

I know it’s just a difficult spot climatology-wise, but it’s almost impressive.

Hell, at this point we might not even be able to pull off a dusting, maybe just some token daytime flakes. Its a sad time.

Just a little research for the upstaters. If GSP does not receive any more snow; the 3 year total will be .8 in. There's been some rough 3 year stretches in our history but this would be the record. The next lowest would be 1.2 in, from 1954-56. This was actually part of the worst 5 years in history, from 52- 57 where GSP only had a total of 1.4 in.; so we've actually seen this before. Then there was only 1.4 in. from 42-45, and 1.7 in. from 73-76. In general; the 40s and 50s were ROUGH for the upstate; check out this stretch. Seasonal totals are in blue; only one good year and the rest were terrible:

Had some big seasons prior; and after this we had a 30 year period with MUCH better snowfall; with 13 of the next 29 seasons getting into double digits; and that was with the stinkers in the early 70s. Now GSP has not had double digits since 92-93; 32 years! Who knows if we'll ever get back into a more favorable pattern but we are due.

This might be one of those most ridiculously annoying winter storms I’ve followed in years. And this is just a hobby. I can’t imagine forecasting for a paycheck.
