Misc Cold Season Complaining

Thanks to those who turned the hurricane political and got it locked again. What a bunch of POS.
I think the political thread should just be no holds barred but also no personal attacks and no foul language directed at each other but if we take it to other threads that’s when warnings and bans start. Just my 2 cents.

Admins asked for the hurricane to not be political in the thread and nobody respected that. Im in a hotel with the first responders and they are working long hours. The one man I talked today was so strung out all he needed was a vape for sanity. Nobody understands what's going on in this city unless you are here.

We have family working at Mission and it’s worse than COVID. I know Charlotte sent their mobile hospital yesterday.

Have you ever thought of moving north? Just curious

I mean it's very hard to get cold down there. Miami hasn't been below freezing since the 80s

It’d be tough to leave my job/family/friends. And as much as I do like cold and snow it’s the excessive heat and humidity that’s crippling. From November-April it’s usually fine here.

Bro keep crying it’s going to be 90/76 for months on end in Miami because that’s Miami for you… what you expect ? 80/45? Nah man it’s October you gon be 86/78 every day

I have to say, that $15 I spent on a chicken wing meal at a food truck this afternoon was "absolutely" money well spent here.

It tasted amazing considering that the only real meat I had this week was bacon that was cooked on a skillet at a working power outlet by a nearby community center.

Earlier, whist driving, I saw a turkey in the wild, tail feathers aruffled, presumably from the storm. Mom had never seen anything of the sort, so I insisted we take a photograph.

Obviously, skittish from being observed, he ran back into the bramble. But you could tell he wasn't really all that un-shy. I thought he might actually pop back out again before we departed. But we simply couldn't wait around any longer as mom's bunion was flaring again, and we had to head back to the house and wait for the UPS driver to show up with the Ivermectin. And by the way, he tends to drive through the neighborhood entirely too fast for my taste. The rooster across the street concurs.

As I was saying I called FEMA. If you are in a county declared a disaster for individual assistance or if this occurs later, you may be able to get some $ for food spoilage losses or other losses:

-Since March, FEMA has been paying $750 for food losses from storms. Must be done within 30 days of storm. Has nothing to do with whether you have NFIP.

-For those in GA who are wondering, FEMA confirmed residents in certain counties in GA (including mine) can apply.

-Fulton/Dekalb not on list (at least yet), but Richmond is as well as many others. You can still apply before your county is on list just in case it gets added later.

-For all states call 800-621-3362 or apply online at http://disasterassistance.gov/ and click on the red. On phone they’ll tell you if your county is on list.

- I think power had to be out 3 days but don’t hold me to that

-Supposedly most get the $750 if power was out long enough. It is all or nothing.

-If denied, can appeal

Ive been worried about a collision mid air for some time now. That creates a whole new mess. The state has been asking people, for days, to simply coordinate with them and don’t go off on your own yet some of these folks believe they are the special snowflakes that can get around the rules. You can have the best intentions in the world but it doesn’t matter if you cause an accident or if you are THE accident.

All I've asked is that we don't make this hurricane political. Over and over its been brought up, hinted at, wink winked between the lines of posts, and whatever other ways you want to describe it. If you want to talk about the response to the hurricane ok fine but there's a way to do this without it inciting a back and forth that isn't necessary.

See no reason global warming has to come up in a hurricane thread. People should just stick to the hurricane facts

I'm saying this here so as not to clog up the storm thread. People's opinions on the government response (and by people, I mean people who are not directly impacted or involved in the relief effort) are largely shaped by their political leanings.

The Katrina response was blasted by the left and largely defended by the right. Objectively, in hindsight, the response was subpar, particularly if you think the government ought to be organized and prepared to deal with these kinds of emergencies. I'm not sure why we expect that though. Most interactions that most people have with the government seem to result in some level of frustration, no matter which party is in charge.

So I don't know why one should expect disaster response to be any different. I mean, hopefully it is a net benefit, and it probably will be in the end. But I guarantee you that it will not be a model of efficiency. And I also don't believe that the enormity of reports by volunteers observing some level of negative interaction with government officials are all lies. Some may be. But certainly not all.

The absolute truth is always hard to find. That's one reason objective, true journalism-based media is so important. But you don't find much of that today. It makes knowing exactly what's going on much harder.

Seeing Webb mention ‘13-‘14 reminds me of one of the craziest weather days I’ve personally experienced:

Temp shot up to 67 around 3 and it was snowing in Fort Mill by 7PM.
I remember that one. The temperature in Wingate when I got home that day about 3:30 was still close to 60. 5 hours later there was heavy snow falling. We actually ended up with a nice coating on the ground for the next morning. In fact there was still some snow on the ground in shady spots a couple days later when I was blowing leaves

I’m not hopeful this winter. It honestly feels like we might get a year here where not only do we not get cold or snow but we’re battling 60’s-70’s through the heart of winter and can count the number of freezes on one hand. This might be the year of no return. If not this year I’m certain I will see it in my lifetime.

This could be the year where Atlanta doesn’t record a freeze 😳
