Was wondering if anyone had problems with an increase of snakes in your yard last year? We had Pygmy rattlesnakes, king and/or rat snakes. The king or rat snakes had different markings so they were different snakes. Some king/rat snakes were up to 6 feet long. As for the pygmy different lengths and some were dead from something eating parts of it. One dead pygmy (partially eaten) was even left on the riding mower seat. Lived here many years but I saw more snakes in one year then I had over many many years. Can weather affect snake population? Or maybe not enough predators that kill snakes?

I can’t say I saw more here in central NC but I think what causes an increase in snake population could be all the new homes/neighborhoods being built. I definitely see a lot more deer in places that were less common to see them. Now, if there has been lots of flooding that will get the snakes out and about too.
