Well back from my weekend cabin get away; was a blast with the fam! I see the winter threats have all fizzled and the upcoming long range pattern is dire. At least we're getting some cool weather for Christmas! ?
Tell us more about the climate of our home state. Not really...

He has Beech Mountain at a low of -5F with a high of 2F. I believe that will be easily achieved.Just checked Rays weather for Sugar Mt NC. He has the actual temperature below 0 Sat morning with a high of 2. Snow squalls as well. I lived there on year. Its a different world. When the cold fronts come through, you know it. I saw 13 below there. Coldest I ever experienced.
Usually overdo wind gust but tbh in this scenario they won't be far off. Winds just a thousand or so feet off the ground are going to be ripping and it will not take much to mix that down.... wide spread 40-50 mph gust should be doable. Higher elevations could be rockingQuestion, how does the HRRR do with wind, or even the 3k for that matter? I don’t see that discussed much, and while I know generally wind maps are overdone, I wondered if the short ranges were notably any better or worse?

Yea it looks meager in the long range. An epic cold blast that still doesn't rival the 80's for us. But for the younger generation it's epic but short lived. Hoping the pattern re loads for the 2nd week of January and sustainsWell back from my weekend cabin get away; was a blast with the fam! I think most of the posters are thinking this could trend to a snow storm for NC. AL/GA not so much. We would need WSW flow aloft longer to get the moisture in place. The energy needs to dig back in New Mexico or west Texas for us to have a chance, I think.Any hope for us back west or is this strictly late bloomer situation?
Good, I get out of work and it’s already dark. It really sucksDays are getting longer now guys. Sigh
Because he’s a man behind a keyboard and feels good behind his safe screen. He can’t see me out here in these streets. Even @Lickdork can’t. What’s good wit it @LickdorkWhy is BamWX so snarky?

Caught a ez 6 pounder in Florida this past weekend. My PB! My buddy also took this pic with my tongue out haha
I was hopeful until the 12z runs, but I’m definitely leaning to a miss. It *could* trend in our favor, but truth be told while we talk about the NW trend, I’ve also watched systems such as this trend east, then back west in the midrange and cause hope and then back east. Southern stream waves seem to amp close to verification and northern stream waves seem to like to trend progressive.Any hope for us back west or is this strictly late bloomer situation?
Or me for changing my avatar to a snow covered Grumpy cat. I'll go back to my old pessimistic ways. That always kept my expectations in check and was less disappointing.I would like to officially thank my man @KyloG for buying a new snow shovel and just killing our great pattern and snow chances!![]()
That doesn't happen anymore. Snowstorms in Texas move toward the Lakes now in the new era. El Ninos give you a good shot at rainstorms moving across the south. El Ninos are too warm now. La Ninas are too warm now. La Ninos that act like El Ninos are too warm now. La Nados are too warm now. If you want snow, you need to move to Seattle or northern Mexico. That's just the way it is now, and I don't see anything that's going to change that, outside of a VEI 9 eruption.I just want to watch a big dog storm start forming out around texas and grow as it comes across and plows into the Carolinas. And I want the 540 line to be around Columbia sc. is that too much to ask?
I can confirm this is fake news. My 7 inches of snow last winter says otherwise. Your a bigger warm weenie then me, you can’t see me in these snowy* streetsThat doesn't happen anymore.
