Man you would have loved it. 93 blizzard, sw Rutherford county 16.5 inches of snow 2-4ft drifts, 60+ mph wind gusts. Full blown whiteout blizzard conditions from noon to about 4-5 pm with temps dropping into the lower twentys during the peak of the storm that evening then temps dropping down to near zero the next 2 nights. Couldn't even see 10ft in front of you to find may way back in my house during the peak of it. Unbelievable storm and hoping I could experience another one day. Hopefully soon. Wish you could have experienced it.Man I wish I was alive during that time. Imagine how poppin this place would be if something like that were to happen again

I drove from my grandma house in that snow storm! I was so happy! One of the best Christmas gifts everrrrr!
Huh? That storm was freakin awesome!!!! The wind and the blowing snow! Wow! That storm was a show!!!The blizzard of 93 sucked monkey balls, full of monkey pox, in Gastonia! Absolutely scarred me for life! Such an overhyped ---- show!

Man that sounds amazing. And what’s crazy is that was in March! Hope to see one like that in my lifetime

Yes it was amazing and like you said, it happened in March was unbelievable. Ive never seen nothing like it in this area in my lifetime. Hoping and dreaming of another one. Hope you get to experience one like it down the road. It happened before it will happen again one day, just hopefully sooner than later.Man that sounds amazing. And what’s crazy is that was in March! I can assure you, I lived off of New Hope Rd, and there was nowhere near 5” of snow, ground truthAccording to climate records Gastonia got 5.1”… how did that suck?
Yeah, he is a warmist and claims that it is too warm now to snow like it did in the 60's.He’s a complete clown! I don’t who said the other day he was a snow weenie!?? That’s not true! There will be an inch on the ground and he will say it’s not gonna snow
Glad someone said itI shouldn’t say anything but IMO that’s his “thing”. He’s the “no hype” meteorologist who has to issue 11 call maps leading up to an event because he starts out with flurries to a dusting and incrementally increases each forecast.
It's sucked since you moved here. Go backI realized since moving south 11 years ago I would never see another one like these unless chasing, the blizzard of 96 at my location with 50mph wind, biggest drifts I've ever seen. But Feb. 5-8 2010 will probably be my greatest ever. 36" of snow followed by another 23" two days later. Snowpacalypse and Snowverkill were the storm names. Anne Arundel County MD.

Those storms are fun. Back in the day we dug my ------ Chrysler sebring out of a 48 inch storm in Mammoth California and drove home to LA. It was so cold we said ---- the chains and just yolod it down the mountain. It was surprisingly not that bad with how good they plow the roads.I realized since moving south 11 years ago I would never see another one like these unless chasing, the blizzard of 96 at my location with 50mph wind, biggest drifts I've ever seen. Wow… I wonder if there was some sort of microclimate reasoning that caused your accumulations to be so much lower. Pretty much all of the local reports from the Gaston County had more than 4” with 6-8” common in the northern part of the county. I found this in a copy of the Charlotte Observer I saved from the day after. Even the 1.6” at CLT airport was low compared to other parts of the the immediate city…. all 3 local news stations had greater than 3” with WSOC having 4.6 at their studios. Over my way in Concord I remember the changeover was just before noon and it was almost instantaneous… heavy rain and then heavy snow blowing sideways a minute later… the ground was covered in about 15 minutesI can assure you, I lived off of New Hope Rd, and there was nowhere near 5” of snow, ground truth
I would be almost willing to bet the change over was so late in the storm in that area of Gaston county that cut the accumulations way down. It was a crazy gradient in that storm. From what I remember. East to west and north to south in the county. Mecklenburg 1-6. Gaston 4-8. Cleveland 6-12. Rutherford 14-24. Polk 18-32 and more the farther west you went into wnc. Not counting drifts. It was crazy the variance in the accumulations from Mecklenburg county back west to the foothills and the mountains in that storm. You could tell who changed over sooner rather than later by the accumulations. Good stuff. Love talking about that storm.Wow… I wonder if there was some sort of microclimate reasoning that caused your accumulations to be so much lower. You got to remember Mack is like 10 feet tall. 10 inches to us is like 5 inches to him!Wow… I wonder if there was some sort of microclimate reasoning that caused your accumulations to be so much lower. Also I did get in on a good period of thundersnow for a time that afternoon. It wasn’t as intense as the upper low in February 2004 was, but it definitely increased the rates.I would be almost willing to bet the change over was so late in the storm in that area of Gaston county that cut the accumulations way down. I lived about 15 min from the CLT airport. I guess more south than the city proper of Gastonia. The Cramerton, Lowell, Belmont , side of town.Wow… I wonder if there was some sort of microclimate reasoning that caused your accumulations to be so much lower. That’s so odd, because obviously I was northeast of you and changed over much earlier. Amazing how much difference there can be over a short area. I do remember how quickly everything started freezing up when the temperature dropped in the 20s… you would expect with a mid March sun angleI lived about 15 min from the CLT airport. So 1.6” at the airport, is very much about how it shook out for me. It also took forever to changeover to snow, about 1-2 pm, if I remember correctly, did hear a rumble of thunder while outside playing in it
That's awesome. I got thundersnow out of the blizzard also during the peak of the storm. Missed out on the heaviest snow in Feb 04 as the heaviest bands set up east of me down your way that evening. I could tell y'all were getting hammered down there. Ended up with 9 inches out of that one. It's still one my favorite storms. It was all snow from the first flake to the last in that storm which is very rare for us in the southeast as you know. Also I did get in on a good period of thundersnow for a time that afternoon. February 2004 was so awesome to experience. I was fortunate enough that I was in on the heaviest snow from the overrunning part during the day and got into that absolute dumping during the evening. That storm was the only time that I’ve actually seen lightning strike while it was snowing. That's awesome. I got thundersnow out of the blizzard also during the peak of the storm. Nothing better than your boogers freezing when you step outside.... but just for a few days a year.2014 was stupid cold for a stretch. That’s the pinnacle for modern cold goobers. Those mornings where you wake up and it’s 6 degrees and the sky just looks different. Cold haze. Then you wake up the next morning and it’s 8 degrees. Everybody talks about how they hate dry cold but I don’t. Those mornings hit different.
Even here kids were riding their bikes on the frozen ponds. It wasn't as cold as out there though. Lots of bikes at bottom of ponds now.Early Jan 2018 is the one that stands out to me. There were some places like Greenville, NC that recorded it's coldest 12 day stretch or so of any winter period ever, dating back to the late 1800's. People were skating on ponds and creeks. Hard to imagine we will ever see those kinds of things again, but who knows. I made sure to take pictures / videos during that stretch of stuff frozen everywhere
Don’t forget that playoff game in New England one year when Titans coach Jeff Fisher literally had snot frozen on his mustache on national tv during a 2 degree Foxboro eveningNothing better than your boogers freezing when you step outside.... but just for a few days a year.
Remember, if you stick you tongue to a light pole and if you can't move it, make sure you pour scolding hot water on it and it should work out for you after??Don’t forget that playoff game in New England one year when Titans coach Jeff Fisher literally had snot frozen on his mustache on national tv during a 2 degree Foxboro evening
and I triple dog dare yaRemember, if you stick you tongue to a light pole and if you can move it, make sure you pour scolding hot water on it and it should work out for you after??
Why does the bot make everyone talk like brick? ?Another one with some of the NC gang. I have a feeling we will see this play out almost exactly in a few months.
