Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

I worded that really badly.

I'm glad some of you think you're making money off the credit card companies, but i'm willing to bet you aren't making off with as much as you think you are. These companies are in the business of making money off you, through interest and fees. I'm sure 11 / 12 times you pay that card off before it's due, and you collect your points. But with as much as you boys are racking up a month in charges, all it takes is 1 month... 1 day late, and you've wiped out all those gains.

If you think you've done the math and found a loop hole in their scheme, I assure you, you are doing your math wrong. Credit Card companies don't loose money.

Why do you think they close your accounts if you don't use them often enough?

So far this year I've earned $3500 on my Capital One Spark Business card. No balances carried. Paid in full every month. The card has an annual fee of $95.

Let's say I only pay the minimum next month on my credit card statement which is about $1000, at ~1.5% per month (18% annual) I would be charged ~$15.

So $3500-95 annual charge - 15 interest charge would leave me in the black at $3390.

So 1 month, 1 day late would not wipe out what I've done through 8+ months this year.

You are right the credit card company has made money off of my card, but it's not from me, it's from all the swipes that card has done at businesses. I have made a lot of money of Capital One over the years, but I'm sure for every one of me there are 20 who aren't like me where the odds tip back into Capital One's favor.

I say all of this as a Dave Ramsey disciple. I used his principles to pay off my house in 14 years on a 30 year loan. I paid off my commercial real estate in 5 years on a 15 year note. He doesn't recommend credit cards, but I guarantee you he has several in his wallet that he uses....responsibly.

The funny thing is people who don't use credit cards are still indirectly giving money to credit card companies (business bake credit card fees into total price of goods/services). I like to think of my credit card rewards as me taking some of that back ?

A little disappointed no one posted the Hugo like storm on the end of the GFS. Even for fantasy storms, it’s not something you really see modeled, like ever. Actually comes from Caribbean still what unusual dig inland and major cane booking fast. 49B66C81-CBF7-4194-9789-532F06AED9DE.jpeg

Whamby thread vs. banter thread? Whamby seemed OG for complaining about current weather but now they seem synonymous. No dog in the hunt either way for me, just curious as to others’ interpretations of the two threads.

And then there's another Whamby thread called ? ✔,that nobody used. I've heard lots of definitions for it. I really think that it's just there for when the whamby gets locked.

I'm thinking about getting a HELOC tell me why i shouldn't.
Isn’t that like a 2nd mortgage? With your house as security for the loan? If you default on a credit card, they harass you and guess can try to collect on it, but it’s unsecured debt. I just never wanted my house as securedness for a loan, you never really know! I mean default on a CC, credit takes a hit, default on HELOC, they take your house, I think

Hey Y’all,

In MLB, I call the 2nd game of a double header a "flipper" I guess because they flip over to the 2nd game...

They're going to be a very dangerous team in the playoffs. Nobody is going to want to play them
