Misc 2020 Banter Thread

I agree about less IP/ZR but I'm not sure the snow impact would be that much. None of the snow events the last 3 winters have really been true CAD related. Honestly the loss of onset snow in CAD events might actually be offset by an increase in change over events where we typically see the low level cold get blocked while 850 up is supportive of snow
That's a good point. The mountains screw us over with those changeover events a lot.

If the apps weren't in play I wonder how much different our weather would be.
More exciting , more thunderstorms , clippers , perhaps more potent cold snaps. Places west of the mountains can get far far colder on a latitude to latitude comparison . Hotter summers could be another one I think. Basically more continental in nature . What’s more interesting to me is what if the app mountains were 3 times as high in elevation and curved in a way that blocks CAD highs in the NE!

The funny thing is that I actually have a little cold. My kids had it a few days ago and it finally got to me. You have a cold Covid. You have ANY symptoms Covid. Flu season is going to be fun.

yeah that was another thing with me, I had just gotten past my 2 weeks from NY and my allergies hit... happens every year but the timing was amazing

Same. It's funny. Before, I would have never given it a second thought. But now, you can't help but wonder of you have Covid. I've been sinusy for 5 days, but today, I started feeling much better. I assume it's a cold. But who knows anymore.

Right? I started sneezing yesterday at work and was waiting for everyone to give me the look of the plague lol

Luckily because of the way my allergies are I keep some cheap pills in the car and they will kill it for a few hours so I took some and ive been fine today

My son has Asthma, and gets little coughs all the time. Ya know, asthma. His preschool called today to tell me he was coughing...

I'm going to have Radarscope tier 1 until next july since I just got it, but would y'all say tier 2 is worth the $99.99/yr?

So uh it's my day off and so I'm sitting at home and I just helped put out a fire in the backyard #2020 strikes again

Luckily all it did was burn some grass and some old chair

I understand that. I think we can all agree that for some people in this thread, like moderators, however there are definitely expectations and standards that need to be met when it comes to dialogue w/ other bloggers and how these sometimes tense situations are handled, and it's apparent that these expectations are clearly not being met in this instance. If this starts to become a consistent theme in any way, shape, or form here, this is especially bothersome imo since many these qualities are exemplified on the very forum many of us have come to despise with ardent fervor (i.e. americanwx).
Except that a vast majority of these tense situations you refer stem from your posts. And as far as I can tell, moderators here, none of us, show partiality when it comes to moderation. If you can't handle a little confrontation and a smidgen of snark for snark, rude for rude, snide remark for snide remark, then that's kind of on you. On the other hand, if your desire is heavy-handed moderation, then there would probably be a lot less posting going on. Try not to be so emotional.

Maybe that's because I'm really not supposed to handle the snide remarks, personal attacks, and your abhorrent behavior because you're a moderator and supposed to be held to a higher standard than everyone else. Surely, that wouldn't be it though.

Well again, nobody has exhibited abhorrent behavior toward you. You really are kind of overreacting here.

So, you think it's okay for you as a moderator to not diffuse a tense situation and continually reinforce it by putting other bloggers down, ridiculing them, supporting posts that personally attack them whether that's for good or bad? Again, keep in mind that it's you, not me, that's being held to the higher standard here on this forum, if you're having problems w/ the way I'm acting and you refuse to take the higher ethical road here, then maybe you should seriously consider not being a moderator.

Except again, nothing has been all that bad. If you're getting your feathers ruffled over a few minor comments and emojis in the Corona thread, then you really ought to examine your social engagement abilities. I mean, man, it was really minor stuff. Either it's just going to come and go from time to time, and we consider it the cost of doing business for a place where differing viewpoints converge, or we ban even the slightest hint of jackassery. The latter would mean that quite a few posters, even some prominent ones, would be taking lots of lengthy breaks. Personally, that seems harsh to me and I am not in favor of that approach. But I guess it's a valid option, if we're talking appropriate standards for everyone.

I like that word, that's the first time I've ever heard of jackassery.

I certainly wouldn’t consider any of what you said or did minor infractions, esp considering you clogged up multiple pages of the Covid thread with personal attacks and support of other’s attacks on me and crappy one liners to my legitimate attempts to put the thread back on track. None of my actions or your perceived magnitude of how poorly your actions were justifies the way you treated me. Once again, because you are in fact held to a higher standard since you’re a moderator, your behavior 100% wasn’t acceptable, even more so than mine in this context given your stature.

I clogged up multiple pages of the thread with personal attacks?! ? Dude, are we reading the same thread? What in the world is happening here? Lol

Webb I'd consider looking at what you're actually saying. So much you say other people attack you yet you just fire back with harder more often punches. If you don't mean to come off how we say you're coming off it would be a great time to look at your posting behavior. If you do mean to be coming off as condescending and meaning to put other people down, it would be a good time to stop. Don't take this as a personal attack or anything, just a general observation.

So you’re now indirectly admitting you clogged up the thread with “jackassery” & personal attacks on me and support of those that followed suit? You’re a moderator and this is a pathetic, unacceptable way to treat other bloggers. Grow up

Serious question: does that in any way justify a moderator punching back just as hard at said blogger and derailing a thread even further with more personal attacks?

Lol ok. You can have the last word on the matter. You were right and I was wrong. Now we can be friends again.

Are you done with the overly snarky, sarcastic commentary? Do you honestly think this is the best way to amend a tense situation and behave as a moderator? If the answer is no, then you should seriously consider dropping it and moving on which I’ve asked for you to do multiple times in the covid thread, which apparently fell on deaf ears. If you’re incapable of handling that then maybe you shouldn’t be a moderator

After reading through all of this, I've concluded that while the initial comment should have been deleted about your intelligence or edited out, the reaction you gave back fits how I just described. The whole liking message thing likely had nothing to do with the snarky comment but more of the message around it which had nothing to do with you personally. What I believe is that you took it out of context and it devolved into the situation we have now. RC is not in the wrong here for liking a post. Calling any member out and stirring up drama is not tolerated regardless of who it is. If you want to talk about professionalism, see your met tag? You're held to a higher standard for that. The way you decided to respond was unprofessional in my opinion.

If you feel people are being snarky use the report button, don't stir something up. If it's a widespread problem, message a staff member and resolve it then. If you feel like the opposing party isn't being reasonable, be the bigger person. Being the bigger person means staying reasonable and calm and talking calmly with that person be it private or in a thread. Simply saying another staff member shouldn't be a mod for how they handled a situation is just wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. We are just volunteers after all.

But you’re completely dancing around and purposely avoiding my underlying point here: how does what I said, my history of arguments with bloggers and how I reacted justify the way this particular situation was handled by a mod? (Hint: it doesn’t) I feel like I’m beating a dead horse here and don’t try to blow smoke up my a** with the idea that emojis mean nothing, it’s pretty easy to see how they really felt when you put 2 and 2 together. The emojis and reactions to those posts when complemented by was what was actually said to me only further supported the notion that Rain Cold was picking sides/favorites and was doing absolutely nothing to diffuse the situation and making it even worse which is evidenced by their responses to me. Even after I repeatedly on multiple occasions asked for the personal/ad hominem attacks to please stop and tried to change the conversation to the topic in the thread and posted evidence to back up my claims, @Rain Cold continued to produce “gotcha!” one-liners, hurl insults, personal jabs, & snark my way has subsequently tried to justify their intolerable actions as evidenced by the responses in this thread. It’s just pathetic, abhorrent behavior that’s unacceptable for the high standards of a moderator, there’s no sugar coating it. Me being a meteorologist certainly doesn’t in any way, shape, or form justify anything they did or mean that it’s okay for a moderator to continually attack me because I was being snarky and effectively take an eye for an eye. Then, to later accuse me of overreacting or saying it wasn’t a “big deal” all the while still rambling on about it and still singling me out, only makes this situation look even worse for said moderator, makes me feel even worse and more upset, brings about more vitriol and doesn’t deflate the tense set of circumstances, which again is your job as a moderator. This kind of reaction and handling of the way said moderator went about this situation makes this place more like Americanwx, the very place we’ve vowed not to become since day 1.

The above is all I’m asking about and it seems like no one wants to admit their fault in how it was gone about and instead of some consolation, I’ve only received more snark, more pushback, more hostility, more personal attacks, and I’m getting singled out as being the clear issue in this situation although there was more than one party involved. Not to mention, I’ve received more nonsensical bs that had nothing do with the conversation in the covid thread that was derailed and reinforced by Rain Cold and a few others in the thread. I have a meteorologist tag but you, rain cold, etc are moderators and arguably held to the highest standard here in this particular setting and it’s 100% exactly in your job description (not mine) to avoid, amend, and fix these exact situations, if you are incapable of doing that which is your job (doesn’t matter if you’re a volunteer or not) because you can’t take the moral high road as a moderator to what another blogger said, then why are you doing this job and maybe you should find someone else to replace you. I don’t see what’s so wrong about this stance and I fully stand behind this opinion

Are you sure you’re done and you got everything out of your system?. This is exactly what I’m talking about in the post above and I thought you said you were gonna let me have the last word here? See how that’s panning out as you have the maturity of a 4 year old

I guess if you’re a mod, it’s entirely okay to ridicule individual loggers at will because there are no repercussions or punishment for your actions.

The political and Covid thread have pitted most everyone against each other and are creating cliques that are being reinforced by some of the mods. This place is following in the footsteps of Americanwx SE US forums.

I disagree.
