...BLACK ICE LIKELY LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING OVER
PORTIONS OF NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA INCLUDING THE ATLANTA
METRO...

Rainfall associated with an approaching cold front will be moving
through the region this afternoon and evening. As the rain exits
the region this evening cold air will filter into the area
quickly behind the rainfall. In addition...relative humidity
values are expected to remain high over night. As a result of the
temperatures quickly dropping below freezing and relative
humidity values remaining high...many area roads and bridges will
not have an opportunity to dry off and subsequently have an
opportunity to freeze overnight and into the early AM resulting in
areas of black ice. Areas along and north and west of the
Interstate 85 corridor have the greatest risk of black ice
forming. Counties and communities just to the south and east of
Interstate 85 may see some patchy black ice.

Across far Northwest GA and the North GA mountains, as the cold
front pushes in behind the storm system this evening, rain could
change to light freezing rain, sleet or snow. Any accumulations
are expected to be very light, however with temperatures falling
into the 20s, some roads may become icy from winter precipitation
or the refreezing of water on roadways previously mentioned.


Persons in these areas should remain alert, monitor the latest
conditions and be prepared patchy black ice through the early AM.

Ice storms can be a major problem even if you're around 30-32. I know because I've experienced it, then heard a lot of information about another one.

While part of me wouldn't have minded an ice storm, the more rational part could have cared less about a 1/26/04 (yes, that's a storm that actually happened and I believe it did not hit Atlanta, it was mainly east GA based) or 2/12/14 repeat.

Edit: Although I will say, get me back out of this area and in North Georgia and my opinion would flip on 2/12/14, but I'd be feeling sorry for my parents.

That is correct. The trends the last 36 hours were not favorable but the local mets didn't seem to be giving too much credence to them. I can see why to some extent. Also the system trended faster overall.
 
This has got to me one of the wettest winters in record for the se. I feel like there's been several weeks of at least 4 to 5 days of Precip. Sad many of us didn't have much if anything to show for it
 
Wonder if we can get a megafrost tomorrow night here? Tomorrow actually looks reasonably nice for the day here surprisingly, though we have to endure a cold rain tonight. And another colder rain is on its way Thursday.

I don’t know what the sun looks like anymore. All I know is what rain looks like as it’s continuous and never-ending.

I'm not JB. But I do often say that it is only wx and that things like having good health are way more important. Believe me I know it after having and getting past Covid. Wx is random...nobody is out to get you. It just is what it is. I have my preferences like cold but whatever.

I can say between 2009 and 2014 I was spoiled and made to expect snow every year or two when down here that’s just not the case. We usually only get a snowstorm every 4 years and to crack the top 5 of snow droughts we’d have to go without snow for 6 years. I hope that dosent happen but you gotta break records sometime

If in an alternative universe "mother nature" were trying to be devious, be a jerk, try to get you upset by giving you wx you don't like, etc,. that would be a totally different story and even I might get pissed. But I know that's not the case and is why I'm so "serenity now" about it. If something is totally out of anyone's control, I don't normally get mad about something I don't like. It was already predestined to happen a certain way, regardless. We don't know what that destiny is in advance only because the models are not nearly smart enough to tell us. If they were perfect, we'd always know in advance exactly what wx we're going to get. Of course, then tracking wx would be more boring without the uncertainties.

When I was much younger, that was more of a challenge and I sometimes got pissed about wx.

OMG, it is literally the end of time...
 
I had the pleasure of replacing my water heater this weekend so at least that was a nice distraction I suppose. Nothing like sucking up water in the basement with the shop vac, just can’t escape dampness much like this cold rain outside. Need a period of sunny and dry to boost spirits, then I will be down to track the late winter great white buffalo one final time. Maybe a lucky ULL or something, I’m not picky at this point.
