Seattle has a similar snow climo to Raleigh and they have a 13 inch snowfall mean on the EPS. Just 2 years after they had like 20 inches total. PAIN

Seattle and Raleigh may have similar snow climo, but has Raleigh ever had nearly 70" in a season like Seattle did in the winter of 1968-69 ?

Not even close. RDU's record is 31.6" I believe. And we haven't even hit 10" snowfall for a winter total in 17 years after doing it an average of once every 3 years from 1886-1887 to 2003-2004.

KSEA's 1981-2010 mean is 6.8", KRDU's is 6.0".

So how is it that they have similar snow climo, yet Seattle has like 40" more than Raleigh in their snowiest season ? That's insane that a city that averages like 7" can get nearly 70" in a season.

Following models for a winter storm in the south is like playing dirty Santa. Get a gift you like, then it gets stolen.

KSEA does suck at larger events, though. They’ve only recorded three days on record with double digit snowfall and 10 with snowfall of at least 7”. Seattle also hasn’t seen a snowfall of at least 7” in a single day since 1985. Raleigh, on the other hand, does much better at larger storms.

I also think Seattle’s snow climo was far better than it currently is back in the earlier portion of the 20th century, IIRC.

I would say Seattle’s snow climo has changed for the worse. 7” wasn’t their average when they were recording 70” in a year. Interesting they receive 0” stinkers in the midst of even their 60” seasons, though.

Nearly 70" in 1 season and 0" the very next season. I can't think of any city in the US that can accomplish that feat other than Seattle.
