I’d be interested in knowing the backstory behind this storm, the latest snowfall on record for Raleigh:

@Webberweather53, you don’t have a map on this on your site, but do you know anything about April 18, 1983? That was Raleigh’s latest measurable snowfall. I recall 1.8”?

I agree , from the time I spent there lurking it’s horrible . They are weenies on steroids , they think 90 inches a year is their normal . To be fair to them , while no where near the level it I over there I have seen that kind of sentiment reflected here . While not 90 inches , a lot of people seem to think double digit are more normal lol. I think I’m pretty reasonable with my expectations , one nice 3-4 inch event then maybe a couple few dusting to an inch low level events . That’s pretty much the average .
It doesn't even have to really stick for me. I just like watching it fall, and the deep serene silence you can only find in a snow storm.

Yeah they used to be more common 1960-1990 but y’all are using that as if it was the baseline normal , using an even longer time frame shows that the 1960s-1990s were highly anomalous , go back further and things were warmer just like today . It’s not like we were always that snowy and cold then boom global warming came and changed that.... no we had a very cold period for 30 years relative to the previous 90 that was then followed by the milder period of today.
It wasn't just that 30 year period. It may have been warmer back in the day. But snowfall was consistent from the beginning of records until about the late 80s. Now its a noticeable decline. I don't really believe those pre 80s years are coming back. At least not in my lifetime. Screenshot_20201210-130710_Gallery.jpg

@Lickwx Charlotte has only had 6 years since 1988 that even broke 5 inches. That is absolutely pathetic. I bet you won't see the same trend in the DC area. We have a legitimate reason to complain down here. We really have sucked for decades now.

I will admit anywhere from Raleigh to Greensboro north has not been doing bad at all, pretty average to wayyyyyyyyyyyy 700%+ of normal above average for places like GSO . I’d love for the snow to disappear for a decade , we deserve it.

Move to SC. You won't see anymore. It has disappeared here for the most part.

You on them good drugs?

You wouldn't have survived from 2000-2004

Affects wore off now , but hey yeah i would ! I was alive during every one of those years . I was in Charlotte for the big 2004 snowfall! I was the biggest snow weenie ever up until I turned 12. I was such a weenie that I would get super extreme anxiety worrying if we wouldn’t see snow that winter .

I don’t get it , I mean they are superior to us by a lot snow wise . Let’s just consider DC the bottom of the mid Atlantic for this argument .... they average 15.4 inches of snow a year .... that’s triple roughly what Raleigh/Nashville average let alone Atlanta or Columbia ! They are also some 8 degrees colder in winter than Raleigh, 10 or so degrees colder than Atlanta , 13 degrees colder than Columbia sc , hell they are some 4 degrees colder than Richmond even. This is using DC Reagan , if I use the less uhi Dulles they average 22 inches of snow , that’s almost 2 feet .

Yeah... Dulles is farther west of DC proper and is in western NOVA to be honest. There is a sharp temp thermocline difference between Reagan National and Dulles. At least 5-8 degrees during coldest days.

They need to move to Flagstaff if they want 90”.

Elizabeth City actually got around an inch from that one. It was right after my old man got orders for San Diego. He was already there and we left once school was done.
