Best storm of my lifetime. It will always be my bar for all winter storms. An adventure and joy all in one.

Fun part: Doesn't start snowing until around 9 am (day time snow!!) when me and the rest of the world is at work. Starts piling up immediately, and everyone sends everyone home and traffic is a mess. Folks in ditches all over Mt. Holly Huntersville Road in W Charlotte. Snowed all day and into the night. Good times.

I well remember the extreme cold Christmas Eve/Christmas Day 1983. On Christmas Eve the temperature was around 30° at noon steadily dropping to around 10° by 6:00 pm. You could literally feel it getting colder by the minute. Wind gusts to 40 mph made it especially brutal.
4° Christmas morning, I believe this was the year we walked on my grandfather's pond on Christmas day. Only time I recall us being able to do that around Christmas

Dallas was below freezing for 12 days straight then(longest streak on record) I can't even imagine that now lol were lucky to get 1 or 2 lately. 4 days below 20 degrees

Winters were so different back then... 1989 was actually colder but very short lived

That was really a nerve wracking storm to track. The whole time the rain snow line was modeled within 20 miles of me. Never could feel good about that one until it actually happened.

You were shooting to stay above the rain / snow line that storm and I was shooting for the bullseye. Got 14ish. Last time I've seen snow accumulate. 2 years to the day.
