And remember with that dec storm, he showed a model and said severe weather could of been possible, when atl verified with rain and temps in the 30s, the man said severe weather when he could of said the other threats that were possible at that moment

As a tv Met your damned if you do and damned if you don’t . I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes. He is looking at the same models we can see and they can go 180 very fast. He is good at seeing CAD.

He has a point. I had a post deleted with no notification agreeing that the FV3 has been the best performer this winter. Then you go through the thread right now and find ten more posts that are far more off-topic than that, so no, there is zero consistency. It begs the question of who should be moderating who. Honestly, in my opinion, the meteorologists should be the mods determining what does and doesn't belong in these threads - at least the storm-related ones. Or at least have a say in the matter if they want one.
Moderators aren’t perfect. It’s a good group of people. We try to maintain good dialogue and strike a balance between constructive conversation, allowing people with no training in meteorology to engage, and at the same time keep those with more experience and training from getting frustrated at clutter in the main threads. It’s not a quantifiable formula — it’s not always black and white. But we do the best we can man. And there’s no intent to offend or target anyone.

I don’t think anyone is opposed to having a met or two on staff . In fact I’ve offered it to two before and it was turned down due to other obligations which is understandable.

But I totally disagree that only the mets should decide what posts should be accepted into the thread . The likely hood of posts being deleted or moved that may have different options than that of the Mets would be very high .

The best way for people to learn is to be corrected if they say something that’s wrong and then have the correction explained . I would argue we need more mets correcting some of the bad interpretations and helping people learn vs determining what goes in a thread

I see you point 100 percent but if we went in the direction that you are suggestion those of us that post incorrect things would never learn

FROM SPANN THE MAN ON THE ALAMBAMAWX.COM

RAIN RETURNS: Clouds move into the state tomorrow ahead of the next weather system to the west, and rain becomes widespread during the day Wednesday. The air will be stable, so there is no threat of severe storms, and probably little thunder. Rain amounts will be around 1/2 inch, with isolated heavier totals. Colder air begins to flow into the state late Wednesday night, and there is a chance a few snow flurries could develop from around midnight Wednesday night through daybreak Thursday, but for now we expect no accumulation or impact.
The sky becomes partly to mostly sunny Thursday with a high in the 40s. Dry, chilly weather continues on Friday with a partly sunny sky and highs mostly in the low to mid 40s.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday looks dry and a bit warmer with temperatures possibly edging up into the 50s thanks to a good supply of sunshine. An “Alberta Clipper” type system will bring some clouds into the state late Saturday night and Sunday, and it could squeeze out a little light rain. But new model guidance continues to trend drier, and we might even get away with dry conditions Sunday. The high Sunday will be in the 45-50 degree range with more clouds than sun.
NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry, then another clipper type system will bring a chance of some light rain, or maybe a little light snow, Tuesday and Tuesday night. Much colder air will follow the clipper on Wednesday; looks like we won’t get out of the 30s with a brisk north wind.
We note there is no evidence at this point of any disruptive snow or ice event for Alabama over the next 7 days, although a few flurries are possible late Wednesday night. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details
.
He follows the op runs and doesn't dig into the setup or anything. I like him, but he's lazy.

Doesn't matter if all the models shows a blizzard coming, he would find the one model that shows nothing and go with it.
exactly. I know he had the blizzard of 93 pegged 5 days out..but these days, he seems to also forget alot of people farther north in alabama may get something and birmingham doesn't. It's called Alabamawx.

You can say don't be offended all you want, but let's face it, deleting someone else's writing IS offensive. It is an indictment against the effort they made to post their thoughts. It offended me to have my post deleted when I was trying to offer some support for a board regular who often gets slammed for making a very cogent and appropriate comment and had it deleted when other nonsense is left up.

Actually, my thought would be much less moderation. The ignore feature works perfectly - those who annoy me I put on ignore and I enjoy reading through what most have to say. And like I said above, it is offensive to anyone to have their post they put effort into deleted regardless of what you say to them.

Honestly he is playing it safe and I don't blame him. The storm is so far out flurries are what the models depict at the moment. If the trends begin to show a majority of large ATL hits, he will say that it's being monitored and there is a chance.

Cant really blame him look at the trends in this dumpster fire of a winter

Mets here are extremely conservative too and while it annoys me well theyve sadly been right so far

Maybe we could create a thread that only mets could post in and other members could view but not comment on . That might be a good way for people to learn . If forced them to read and comprehend

I LIKE THE IDEA.. I AM BY NO MEANS A MET AND WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A SECTION WHERE METS COULD POST AND EXPLAIN WHAT THEY ARE SEEING VS WHAT I OR OTHERS MIGHT SEE

That would be cool... and have it pinned. ??

You know what's borderline offensive? People providing a service, a board free of charge for people to discuss a hobby we all love and then get complained about day in and day out. We get complained about when we delete or move post, we get complained about when we don't.... people always telling us how we should be doing our "job". Expecting people with real lives, jobs, families to be here every second of every day to read every word and then moderate perfectly to different individuals expectations. Damned if you do, damned if you don't..... frankly it's annoying.

I have thought about this too. But you have posters who are every bit as capable as the meteorologists of posting about patterns/model analysis etc. and there are only a few meteorologists here. It wouldn't be the same without some of them. Now maybe a thread dedicated to model analysis where you MUST discuss/analyze model runs and no other posts are allowed could work.
