One heck of a mid-January map - snow, anyone?
that is way off, i know there was a lot of heavy snow and winter storm warnings going on yesterday out west where that shows nothing

Alright folks, let's upload some avatars! I'm tired of seeing the lightning bolt for half the posters. I can't keep the names straight. I need pictures!
That was the thinking behind the bolt of doom avatar. People would hate it and want to change it, haha!Alright folks, let's upload some avatars! I'm tired of seeing the lightning bolt for half the posters. I can't keep the names straight. I need pictures!
Only takes one.Does anyone else find it funny that yesterday storms weren't as severe in South Carolina because it never got as warm as everyone predicted? Yet when we want snow, the temps never get as cold as everyone expected. Granted, I am glad they were wrong about yesterday, but just goes to show noone knows exactly what mother nature will do.

I was just thinking to myself that southern wx should have a thread or something related to the solar eclipse that's going to occur this August. I know I'm extremely excited and have been looking forward to it for at least five years. My area is close to one of the best viewing sites in America and well go completely dark for 2 minutes and 30 seconds I believe. Anyways just thought I'd throw the idea out there as it's sure to be a heavily discussed topic as we get closer.
Sweet, thanks Shawn!Okay, the Space Weather forum is created, and here is the Eclipse thread - http://southernwx.com/community/threads/solar-eclipse-august-21-2017.102/
Enjoy!
is the other site down right now? AW?
Btw, in case anyone is interested, here's a link to the poster I presented at AMS earlier this week in Seattle as part of my undergraduate research @ NC State. I was able to actually get in touch with Klaus Wolter (the founder of the MEI) earlier today and he seemed interested in some of my work and expanding the applicability, confidence of, and revising both the MEI and Extended MEI in the coming year or so... I am hoping to get a paper published on this by some time next year

Awesome work... we are very fortunate to have you on this board not too mention someone doing the work you are doing! I see great things from you in the future, can't wait.
Hey Eric! Hope the new site is working better for ya!
next thing you know you will organize a march saying all your winter rights have been threatenedI'm thinking about joining the "Winter Sucks" crowd.... Lol
It's a great day for a march (weather wise)..... and that's all I'm going to say about thatnext thing you know you will organize a march saying all your winter rights have been threatened

To be fair the places in the Sahara that saw snow were over 3,000' in elevation and their latitude is about the same as Dallas.Unbelievable...Sahara Desert sees snow, but not in the SE US

Just got the news alert....funny lady. RIPRIP Mary Tyler Moore
You wouldn't be saying that if you lived in Dahlonega in 2014. Even 2015 may of been a better year there than this year. Nothing to write home about yet but I still think one more storm is a possibility even in a crappy winter like this one.I saw more snow this winter than I've seen in any winter since 2010-11 so I'm probably not as upset as most people.
RIP Mary Tyler Moore
Yeah that's true. And I actually saw 10" of snow in 2014-15 but it wasn't IMBY so it's not the same. I'll be moving away from Dahlonega in the next few months and I should be in a better location for snow next winter. You wouldn't be saying that if you lived in Dahlonega in 2014. start with met , he is bringing bad mojo to the boardI am getting pretty close to using the ban hammer![]()
I thought you were going back to Carrollton?Yeah that's true. And I actually saw 10" of snow in 2014-15 but it wasn't IMBY so it's not the same. I'll be moving away from Dahlonega in the next few months and I should be in a better location for snow next winter.
It's possible that I may go back to Carrollton. I will know for sure by April. But there's also a good possibility I will end up somewhere in the midwest. I'm just ready to get away from this area. Yeah it snows more, but man it's a boring area. Even more boring than Carrollton.I thought you were going back to Carrollton?
Oh. I'm sure you would do well in the midwest but you would also see more tornadoes and ice storms too. The weather wouldn't be boring at all there. It's possible that I may go back to Carrollton. I think it'd be a little more special if it occurred just a little more frequently. 5 out of 6 winters with less than 1/2" of snow in ATL is hard to get excited about. This has to be one of the worst stretches of winters for ATL in quite some time, even worse than the 2003-2007 period.I still think there's nothing more special than wintry weather in the south because it isn't ordinary. Just my opinion.
Wait.... an actual met or a metwannabe?? C'mon man!start with met , he is bringing bad mojo to the board
