I live on the NW side (ITP). Roughly a mile west of MB Stadium as a reference point.

models really are underestimating just how cold the proceeding airmass is at all levels of the atmosphere and with some dynamic cooling it collapsed the column well south. Christ justice said it, I said it this week, we lived through it in Jan 2022. I honestly wasn’t flipping out even as the NAM/HRRR showed more mixing and ice.
Just started ripping. Ground whitened up in minutes. 30.7/22
Latest hrrr doesn’t even start clt as snow unreal.

Anyone know why the HRRR is initializing rain/ice in areas where its snowing in GA and AL? Just rate driven dynamics?
That Downtown Atl cam is the bomb someone keeps linking. I cant even see the sky line anymore, its snowing fatties so hard

Sleet/ice pellets here in modoc, scj just north of Augusta. I had 25 degrees at midnight and its up to 30 now.

Already an inch here. NWS projected 1.1” total for the entire storm, so huge bust at this rate

28.8/26.4... nearing wet bulb, prob about as low as it goes. Ripping fat flakes. I am guessing maybe 2" right now in midtown? I'll have to verify that.

We have 3 inches in southern Jefferson county in Birmingham .

24.8 / 21.0 and Light Snow here (1800 feet in elevation right outside of Chattanooga). The ground is so cold the light snow turned into an instant dusting. Ready for those heavier returns to head this way!

Heavy snow here at the Al/Ga line about 12 miles north of I20. Two inches so far. Temp 28 with DP of 23

Did you start out as sleet or immediately snow?
2 inches so far here, Temp holding steady at 29. Waiting for the inevitable, but enjoying watching the snow still coming down.

I've got about 2 inches just south of Piedmont Hospital. With this band just to the south about to work up here, maybe I'll have 4 inches by 9AM?

RGEM has held steady for I dont know how many runs now. I think we're gonna be 90% snow and 10% sleet here. We'll see.

Looks like 2 or 3 inches here in Helena Alabama.
Doesn’t even have clt get precip until 5p but the dry areas east of Augusta it shows with nothing until 10a already reporting sleet

Yeah those in house graph models were similar. The NWS said they also favored the RGEM and colder models vs the NAM.

Bama couldn't have asked for a better time of day for the heaviest precip to roll through . This is amazing
