Wintry 1/9-12 Winter Potential Great Dane or Yorkie

34 degrees in CLT with warm nose drifting north and no precipitation yet. Concerning.

Big big trouble

Pretty sure this matches what every model showed?

Don’t forget 10 hours ago some MS/AL/GA posters were melting down about sleet and temps and a lot of them got hammered.

Absolutely correct. I still don’t understand the cliff diving. The radar is really beginning to fill in and looks juiced. We should have reports of snow/sleet in the Metro by 2. Right on par with models.

We are off of forecasted surface temps by about 2 degrees in Chattanooga…

Not sure if that will mean anything down the road

Just took my first measurements here at the cabin. Wanted to get some before any changeover. Snowing as hard as it has so far.

2.5 to 3 inches so far.

back to all heavy snow. Whew that was close
Your obs are definitely supporting my thought for even up here at RDU that this is going to be rate driven for a good chunk before WAA overwhelms. A little sleet mixed in will only help solidify what you get hopefully!

Seeing more pink then purple... rain/sleet mix maybe?

It's basically just initializing lower lol. It still stubbornly wants to raise temps rapidly this afternoon. Going to be hard to do with thicker clouds and virga falling into the column.
HRRR slowly giving it up with those crazy warm surface temps this afternoon.

Rain coming down now. Went up to 32 , now 30 . Water dripping off roof . but freezing on shrubs and trees . One inch icicle on rose bush. I had a little over an inch of snow followed by sleet and now rain. I am in Woodstock /Holly Spring border.

I’d have to think being at peak solar radiation for the day is affecting ice accretion, too, especially that near freezing.

NWS was very conservative in the forecast. Called for 1-2 inches of snow and sleet today and 1 inch tonight. Really think we make that run at 5-6 since we are at 3 and it’s only 12:30. I’m happy with where we are! It’s beautiful! Loving all the pictures from across the board! Congrats all!
