My God, the sun is so brutal. Even with temperatures in the low to mid 20s and cold temperatures leading up to the storm, there are wet/bare patches appearing on the roads and sidewalks here before noon! Unreal! :(

EDIT: I am on a south facing hill, though.

RDU reported only .21" of precip past 24 hours. That's impressive we got that much snow with little precip. Sun is going to eat this up fairly quickly. I'm good with that...enjoy it today and than hopefully it all melts tomorrow.

RDU :Raleigh-Durham : 30 / 20 / 0.21

Yeah, precip didn’t particularly overperform, which is something that never, ever happens with winter storms. We just got ratios to save the day. The RGEM and GFS ended up a little too wet IIRC.

Measured 3.5-4.5 on many different surfaces .. we will call it a 4 inch big dog? here in Raleigh by the PNC area .. wow I have re fallen in love with weather with this event

That's how I was....I was just under 4" in a couple of spots but it blowing around so much last night it was difficult to be sure. I shoveled a lot of snow this morning.

Yep nothing can hide from the sun melting some snow .. key here is we step above freezing today very quickly but all that melts will simply immediately refreeze tonight .. this will also help make the snow have more “staying power” as the top layer melts down moistens the snow beneath it and then hard freeze makes that snow harder to melt .. we do get into the mid 40s a few days after but still anywhere shaded won’t melt fast at all and again temps drop as soon as the sun goes down .. roads will probably be more of an Issue the further in time we go vs immediately after event for this reason
