How does Roxboro always get more snow than here, no matter what the setup is? It baffles the mind.
And you’re not wrong that Raleigh has done better than Charlotte recently, but Raleigh hasn’t done well, either. We are the better fed, but we are both slowly starving. Two of the last three winters here were snowless and last winter was average.

Yes. It feels like I scouted a perfect ski weekend and I’ve just arrived up at Sugar mountain to heavy NW flow. This is rare stuff and we may not see it again for another 15+ years. Powder only comparable to January 2011

The one time conditions are right for a light, fluffy snow in who knows how many years and this happens. Enjoy everyone

15* Mod Snow. Got between 3-4” on the ground and quickly adding up. About 7 miles NW of PTI Airport.

This is 2:11 pm. At 1pm ish, snow should start breaking out around triangle. Be light. But its covered dry hole by 2:11 pm
Fast forward to 5:30 pm and notice bands darker colored,coastal is cranking and upper low is giving in slowly.

41002 bouy update: looks like a front of moved through overnight. in my hobbyist analysis this coastal low is looking like it wants to audition for Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks rather than try to go hang at the beach.
also generally on track per forecast although perhaps some uncertainty wrt the low forming even further east

It seems to be slowly filling in the precip hole over us, so perhaps we can still end up with 2-4” or so.

I hope so but really hard to believe it for the Triangle.
I mean the coastal low really hasn't wound up yet. I still think it's going to throw enough moisture back for you.

That’s hard to fathom 5pm and still cranking. Do you have the radar that shows how long it goes through the triad? You’ve been great to follow through this storm.

Coming down good here and we are over 2”, probably close to 2.5”. Had to run get a prescription for my wife and a 25-minute round trip took me 1 hour, 10 minutes. Definitely not great driving conditions.
Bout the only saving grace I could see for RDU through JoCo is wind getting high enough to blow a few drifts from counties away. Other than that, chalk this one up, she gone.

Midnight.
Closed 850mb low with warm advection / overrunning co-located with frontogenesis. Those are 2 methods in the mid-levels for producing rising motion, and with moisture, precipitation. This time, we're overrunning warm air into cold air that is cold enough to say no, not this time big boy....no warm nose on the sounding above 0 deg C today.

Southern Rutherford county, mesolow just keeps cooking and don’t look to be moving but more so spinning. Upstate and Charlotte going to get buried.
There was a 30-45 minute period with only light flakes but we are back to ripping
