We've certainly had our share of nights below freezing,teens,lower 20s, Frost. Good news is Its not even the 1st official day of winter yet lol.
Ive got that vibe, that some of us are getting ready to hear our favorite 3 word statement over the next few weeks. Winter Storm Warning! Past Time for the rubber band to snap back in the other direction.
Looks like potential to me.
This winter already feels colder than last winter as far as the amount of days in a row having to wear long sleeves and jackets.

The cold that came was more intense but it is certainly more chilly month over a longer stretch

Yeah it's already cold here and apparently this is nothing compared to after Christmas possibly ? heck we supposedly started to warmup today but the wind picked up and it didnt feel like it

Gotta get the Golf in starting tomorrow, Fri,Sat. Gonna be a swamp Christmas night through the 27th, Euro says pattern flips on time still 28/29th after the rain. We might get to do another Rogue flake east of the mountains watch. Think I've counted about 7 flakes so far this season lol. Got a shot at some decent upslope next wed into Thursday. I'm down for a chase in the northern mtns if its more than a measly inch or 2.

6z GFS with a fairly major change. Previous runs had a lot of energy diving down mid week and reinforcing a cold shot. Now it’s a minor front with the ridge building in behind it.

Races and short lived through the good phases. Unfortunately not a promising look for snow outside of the mountains
Think what some aren’t realizing is the “colder” phases of the MJO, the exact phases (8/1) that are in tandem with +AAM are aiding in the jet extension and to help keep it going… those phases favor a jet extension during Nino and nina years during the winter. Which we already have a mega death jet. It isn’t doing to much to help us out. we need some retraction of the pacific jet, not big but we need a decent amount to get cold back into the NHEM. Signs of falling AAM soon, which would start retraction
Exactly. Also it should be pointed out that the MJO is actually racing through all phases right now. We literally just saw it go through phases 3-6 in only about 8 or 9 days.

This is what my temps do just about every calm night, drop quickly to just above where I'll be for the overall low right before midnight, then fluctuate.
It's amazing what little bits of topography can do.
I’m a few hundred feet in elevation lower and my overnight lows typically do the same on clear nights. For example last night I had dropped to 28 degrees at 11:30 and ended up with a low of 27. Also for whatever reason, my low temperature on clear nights is running about 4 degrees higher than what GSP forecasts.

A year ago an Arctic front was about to crash through the area ? I am good never doing that again.. it was 4 degrees at 12pm and that wasn't the wind chill

I would love to relive it again. Coldest I ever seen was -12 temperature in January 1985 and that wasn't the wind chill. Almost 40 years ago. Bout time again.

Greensboro is running 1 degree above normal temp wise as of this morning for December.
KFFC:
A secondary weaker system will make its way across the Northern Gulf
Coast States, on Thursday. Bringing another chance for precip as
well as another surge of cooler air. Given the dropping temperatures
the dreaded s-word may come into play, however most of the area will
remain too warm. Any flurries or rain-snow mix will be limited to
the highest elevations of North GA. This, of course, is assuming any
precipitation falls at all given the drier air brought in by the
first system. Either way we will continue to monitor the situation
as conditions are extremely likely to change given the complex
weather pattern.

This year gonna be 55 for Christmas and Christmas Eve!
This storm in the Plains, is doing a crazy loop, almost going around Iowa on all the models! Crazy path! Its all rain, so it’s irrelevant to me!

This is the Arctic outbreak that lead to the Christmas Blizzard for the coastal Carolinas and several inches of snow for northern Florida and the Panhandle
I think we had a good dusting that morning too in north Georgia. Somewhere there is an old VHS of my dad screaming about the fact that it snowed on Christmas like a little kid.
Yeah my family and I were actually at Myrtle Beach for the storm that Christmas. My Dad and Uncle were building contractors and were working on repairs from Hugo. The property they were working at allowed them to bring their families down for a few days around Christmas and stay in the completed rooms for free. The low at Myrtle Beach that morning was 2 degrees with about 14” of snow on the ground

That was some cooooooold snap! -5 below zero and killed many many bushes all over the state. We did get about 2.0 inches of snow over a 4 day period but that was basically it for the season . Got that Ice storm in early February also.
