True, a new govt will agree to it quickly. Some countries will immediately recognize the new govt while the EU will quietly do it a few months later.Current Ukraine government,no, but what if capital falls and the government is relocated somewhere else and Russia plays a narrative proclaiming a pro Russian government then the new government agrees. Not sure the true advantage there if still fighting a strong resistance, with current government still in country just relocated, just thinking out loud for discussion. Russia narrative for Russian media
I have to admit im baffled at what Putin has done though i think as long as he stops at Ukraine he will be fine. I thought he would occupy the 2 eastern prvinces and call it a day.I could see Russia moving into Moldova next, but after that the path of least resistance is probably retaking some of the ex-SSRs in Central Asia. Unless Putin is crazy enough to take on NATO itself.
8% of our oil imports in the US come from Russia also.We should not forget the one very important thing. And it brings up ours and Europe's total hypocrisy. The sanctions DO NOT include blocking Russian export of energy. As we speak, or type, now the fighting is going on in Ukraine and we and the europeans are still buying Russian oil and NG. I guess i keep posting this but we AT THIS VERY MOMENT are financing Russia's invasion.
Yep. It's as if Ukraine has been handed to Russia in exchange for energy. We should not forget the one very important thing. And it brings up ours and Europe's total hypocrisy. Which is obscene. Canada to our north has lots of oil and we did have a pipleine to bring it here. But instead, we finance russia's military.8% of our oil imports in the US come from Russia also.
It sounds really impressive on TV and Radio.....Sanctions = Doing "something"We should not forget the one very important thing. And it brings up ours and Europe's total hypocrisy. Over half of our imported oil is from CanadaWhich is obscene. Canada to our north has lots of oil and we did have a pipleine to bring it here. But instead, we finance russia's military.
Just my opinion, but i think behind the scenes the current ukranian govt is getting a heck of alot of pressure to give upIt sounds really impressive on TV and Radio.....Sanctions = Doing "something"
They are a very reliable trading partner. It makes no sense we get any energy from Russia.Over half of our imported oil is from Canada
We have the natural resources to put and end to Putin. But......Which is obscene. Canada to our north has lots of oil and we did have a pipleine to bring it here. But instead, we finance russia's military.

Diversification makes sense usually. Oil imports from Russia started ramping up in 2017 as less was imported from Venezuela. That'll probably change now. They are a very reliable trading partner. It makes no sense we get any energy from Russia.
I know we dont buy NG from Russia but Europe does. And in the very long run we could make up for Russian natural gas. But that would require building a new fleet of tankers as well as constructing terminals in Europe. We are not buying Russia’s NG. So, NG shouldn’t be lumped in with oil to be accurate about this as regards the US. On the contrary, we are a net exporter of NG with significant LNG exports to Europe that are at record highs for us.
We were near a record high NG production for us just before the January cold hit, which caused a temporary reduction due to freeze-offs.
We are the number one NG producer in the world by far with it being 35% higher than that of Russia:

NPWhile I think it's a valid discussion I think we are getting very close in here to drifting to more political talk so try to keep it focused on the actual events occurring in Ukraine. @Storm5 is supposed to be moderating but seems he is trapped in the market thread or something like that![]()
Yes, it is hard to divorce an event like this from political overtones, and so far, with a few exceptions, I personally am quite impressed; actually am getting more facts and info from this lil' ol' weather board than from any pontificating network, spanning everything from FOX to CNN and all in between ... and for that there's one redneck here who is very appreciative ...While I think it's a valid discussion I think we are getting very close in here to drifting to more political talk so try to keep it focused on the actual events occurring in Ukraine. @Storm5 is supposed to be moderating but seems he is trapped in the market thread or something like that![]()
It is absolutely the thing to do to defend against a more powerful enemy.I dont think thats wise. Will get alot of civilians killed. I think the best thing would be for Kiev to be declared an open city.
Make that two rednecks if I may add my name to that listYes, it is hard to divorce an event like this from political overtones, and so far, with a few exceptions, I personally am quite impressed; actually am getting more facts and info from this lil' ol' weather board than from any pontificating network, spanning everything from FOX to CNN and all in between ... and for that there's one redneck here who is very appreciative ...
If they want to stay away from being under Russia's rule Then it isI
