Wintry Jan 15-16 Winter Storm Discussion & Obs

GSP starting to mention higher wind gust now for much of its CWA. This is going to very serious for many of us unless we somehow get sleet rather than ZR. They now think the warm nose will go all the way to even Avery county now.

CST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to
5 inches.

* WHERE...Portions of Middle Tennessee.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 6 PM CST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow totals will be very dependent on near
surface temperatures, and the changeover from a rain or rain
snow mix to all snow early Sunday morning. Any changes a degree
or two either direction will have big impacts on final snow
amounts.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can
be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Let’s goooo. Bring it on. I can already tell I’m going to be sweating it out where I’ll be on the line of south Forsyth and north Fulton tonight. Going to razor right.

I do anticipate some sleet for the northern burbs at some point tonight. Not sure that’s really being communicated enough by the NWS.

On the frontend and the backend. Frontend because if everything is just 2-3 degrees colder than modeled, decent frontend thump and the backend could be more moist than modeled....somehow we'll find a way to lose at both.
 
Gonna go off a limb here and say a exceptional dangerous High Risk will be issued in the morning for southern Winston-Salem, southern GSO, down into Asheboro zoo area could be a war zone. This “could” extend into western Raleigh metro and north-eastern Charlotte metro.

The briefing that just came seemed to be really concerned with wind. Talk of upgrading wind advisory to high wind warning for some especially along I-85 from Lagrange on up. So power outages a concern regardless of ice coverage.

and it’s not because the system is necessarily speeding up.. it’s more because that FGEN forcing is expanding further E and NE ahead of the low

I'd like to see it trend earlier than that to start--preferably before sunrise so we can increase the chances of seeing white on the ground for longer.
