I personally don’t get why anyone would care. It’d be one thing if someone who lived north their whole life and was posting consistently about the snow they were getting that we weren’t. But people who literally just moved from the south to the north last winter should not bother anyone when they post about the snow they get. I personally like it and think it’s cool to see the ground truth vs radar and how it is living up north with insanely cold temps. They are members and were once in the same general boat we all are when it comes to winter weather. I’ll also add that I like to see pictures from the Deep South also when snow falls or any other place for that matter. As more years go by I‘m sure there will be others from the south who move north also. And lastly we have people from so far south on the board that it doesn’t even snow where they live so should that bother people also since they post in the winter thread? I think not.Can we ban the complaining about other folks from other places ? We literally have 2 active members from snowy cold places . Only 2! Y’all can’t tolerate 2 members ? 2 members ? That’s rough.
BoooooooooI will confidently say this winter will be warmer and less wintry than 2011/2012. It's going to be much worse. Ya'll should dial down the optimism so you don't get crushed.
If I move to a mountain community and get hit with a March 93 you can best bet Id be filling this forum up!!I personally don’t get why anyone would care. Go to sleep NickyHoly crap the models are putting on a show for us tonight .. Gfs with an absolute massive brute force arctic front … this would have hell raining down on the SE in terms of severe weather! We’re talking damaging winds even outside of thunderstorms .. I mean the energy being shown here is just outrageous View attachment 100130View attachment 100129View attachment 100128
Even if some of us by some miracle do get some snow out of this upcoming system the soil temps are going to be a nightmare. It's 75/70 in parts of GA at 1am. If that's not middle of July weather I don't know what is.
Dear Lord, not another soil temp comment....Even if some of us by some miracle do get some snow out of this upcoming system the soil temps are going to be a nightmare.
Haha well when it’s been 75 degrees so recently it is a legit limiting factor. The NWS frequently discusses soil temps with regard to snowfall accumulations.Dear Lord, not another soil temp comment....

Sheesh warm weenies really backed up in a corner having to talk about this stuff ? sun angle does not even remotely become a problem right now nor will it until March everything else can always be over come by dynamics and rates … if people even see flakes falling with this system it’s a major victory as we finally are shaking up the constant 70s pattern and finally get our pattern change we’ve been talking aboutHaha well when it’s been 75 degrees so recently it is a legit limiting factor. Warm soil temps + marginal BL temps + sun angle are the unholy trifecta that I’ve seen severely damper several snow events in the past, most recently February 2020 here.
Time of day still matters as the noon sun angle even this time of year can hamper accumulations if the BL is marginal, especially on paved surfaces, but I agree it’s pretty mundane compared to the situation in March.Sheesh warm weenies really backed up in a corner having to talk about this stuff ? sun angle does not even remotely become a problem right now nor will it until March everything else can always be over come by dynamics and rates … if people even see flakes falling with this system it’s a major victory as we finally are shaking up the constant 70s pattern and finally get our pattern change we’ve been talking about

I remember as a kid we had a couple inches of snow and then the next day the high was like 20F with full sunshine. I thought there would be no melting because I was young and dumb and the temperature was well below freezing, but instead the steet was like a river and the full sun absolutely scorched the areas in the sun and by the end of the day there was bare grass to be seen. It was a depressing realization.Noon sun melts/sublimates here with temps in the teens! Cloudy or sunny
