Pattern December to Remember

Check out this masterpiece

We finally have a nice climo chart like this to call our own in NC!

You’re awesome Eric! I really appreciate your dedication to continue working on NC Climatology despite having left the state. I hope that this bring great use to me and my ERA-5 research plots.

This is great Webb. Would be interesting to plot graphs of each decade or certain time period to compare it to the graph above
Probably not enough data to do that. You’d just see one giant spike at certain areas unless it was smoothed like crazy.

Wow this is truly amazing stuff here. We may get into weenie bouts here sometimes but I’m truly so impressed with the stuff you’ve done for the state

Thanks Nicky. Definitely recommend giving that big excel sheet a look, lots of cool stuff in there! I’ll progressively be expanding that, I want to add NOAA 20CR SLP based daily indices of the nao, ao, pna, etc and pair those with the maps I’ve already completed back to 1895, when COOP observers started regularly reporting snow to see if that additional 50 ish years of data changes anything.

Yeah the data is unfortunately too noisy for this to see any real trend :/. I already smoothed that plot earlier in the thread with a 15 day running mean filter. Maybe if you lump together several decades you may see something?! What I did notice tho is that ice storms seem to have a slightly earlier climo peak (by about a week) vs snow storms.
