The record happened at 50 N which is still a solid 17 degrees south of the Arctic circle , although it is a bit closer to the North Pole than it is to the equator .
 
Well, today's forecast was a bust! Not complaining at all though. Those Piedmont troughs are sneaky little things. And I love how they seem to set up over Charlotte.

Iowa has higher all time high records than any of the Southeastern states as well and it's a much higher latitude. Fun fact: Hawaii is the state with the lowest all time high in the country(98 degrees).
 
So far, this week hasn't been as bad as originally feared.

Monday was the only cool/rainy day. Yesterfay and today have featured hoghs at/above 90*F and partly cloudy skies after the morning stratus breaks up.

It's ultimately only been slightly below normal, thanks to the overnight lows around average..

"A Flash Flood Watch was strongly considered for the Piedmont to account for that probability, but after coordination with surrounding WFOs, and in an effort to not overinflate the egos of keyboard meteorologist, we will allow subsequent shifts to further evaluate that potential."
