I don't see how anyone thinks the parties "switched". Most republicans support Freedom/Liberty/Life. Makes sense that they would be against slavery and oppression. Just because most Republicans are against affirmative action, doesn't mean the platform has changed or switched. Republicans support freedom of oppression in most of the globe. Its why they are against communism, current Government of China and others that severly mistreat their citizens.

Now their stance against affirmative action and special treatment of certain so called groups is because its just that exactly.

Its idiocy to think you can be pro freedom and have to support affirmative action (which is not freedom), because that's dictating.

It is an interesting discussion for sure. I think many are way oversimplifying it though. We can't just look at two EC maps from decades apart and use it to say there has been a switch, or that there has not. There's far too many cultural, social, and political events and changes to consider for a couple of map shots to settle it. It's not like the parties have remained basically unchanged over the past 160 years and the names just switched like some seem to be implying; ie, today's Republican party is the Democratic party of 1860 and vice-versa. We're in a whole different time period now than the country was then and some issues are vastly different. There are several theories on this. Some say there was indeed a switch in recent decades, some say there wasn't, and others theorize there have been multiple "switches." I am not sure it's really possible to say one party has been consistently on the "right" side of all the issues for the duration of that time through all of the changes. Perhaps conservative/liberal values have always been there but the party banners haven't always kept pace? Certainly Republicans were on the right side of slavery in 1860. As a conservative I think they're on the right side of most of the issues of today. Switches in between? Maybe.

We need a 3rd party badly but will not get it. If we got one I'd like it to be be close to the center. Perhaps a little left on economic issues.

Extremists have took over both parties we have now.

I absolutely agree it would be nice to have at least one more viable party to consider. The extremes of both parties seems to have taken over and that is hard to get around. There are some issues, like abortion, that one is either for or against without the possibility of any real middle ground. But there is plenty of room for compromise on many issues such as environment, education, healthcare, etc. The extreme candidates don't really reflect the views of many voters but they are voted for because they are more conservative or liberal in nature. Unfortunately, voters are judged for those candidate's entire platforms. The media and other party candidates make it seem as if voters are just as extreme as the candidates they vote for and the tug or war tightens. Not much allowance for meeting in the middle.

Great analysis

Trump was a moron for retweeting that White Power video.

Trump has been his own worst enemy during his presidency. He seems to be an narcissistic jerk, but that aside; if he could have managed to stay off twitter and control his impulsive mouth a few notches he would have probably been fine. He may well win the election for poor Joe.

Not my state, but as an outsider I’m glad to see the flag changing. It was quite a thorn in the eye of a significant portion of the state’s population (Mississippi has the highest demographic percentage of African Americans of any state).
I was alright with the change it’s just that the state legislature decided to change it instead of allowing for a referendum and letting the people of Mississippi decide if they wanted it or not.

I wish he would just step down. Let Pence run.

That’s how you guarantee a loss

If you look at what those on the left are doing such as mass gatherings (supposedly something that shouldn't be done), violence on commerce (business owners, buildings), and violence in protests, sometimes against people, media attack on those on the right, silence for those on the left....Pence seems too mild, polite, and mannerful to go to battle against all that.

This is from a pastor. It’s about 15 minutes long. I recommend people watch this. It involves the possibility of a civil war possibly troops on the ground possibly Russian and Chinese troops. It’s scary but should be watched. I would recommend stocking up on food guns ammo right now!

Well, the conservatives need a candidate that can counter the left without the extreme narcissism. I guess there is always 2024 if conservatives can keep the Senate. That’s probably must important at this point.
