I am really excited about baseball season. Pitchers and catchers report next week !
People say that cold weather and sickness isnt connected, but yet it seems like so many people get sicker in the colder months.
I never adjusted, but i lived farther south (Orlando). At least Gainesville has a few more cooler days. One adjusts; I just can't imagine how my grandparents did it without A/C ... except they knew no different ...
actually can get quite cold in Gainesville. There's usually about a 20º spread in winter; 20º here is often 40º in Orlando ...I never adjusted, but i lived farther south (Orlando). At least Gainesville has a few more cooler days.
But how often does it get cold in Gainesville when its cloudy ? I bet most of the cold nights there have a clear sky.actually can get quite cold in Gainesville. There's usually about a 20º spread in winter; 20º here is often 40º in Orlando ...

You can say that about most anywhere. Coldest nights correlate to clear skies.
Yeah but its not unusual to see cloudy skies and temps below freezing in most areas at least once or twice a year. I would be interested to know how often Gainesville has freezing temps with a lot of cloud cover. You can say that about most anywhere. Coldest nights correlate to clear skies.
I remember that... I have a friend who used to live in Ocala, and it would get much cooler there than Orlando.actually can get quite cold in Gainesville. There's usually about a 20º spread in winter; 20º here is often 40º in Orlando ...
I don't know how many days that Gainesville would have freezing temps with cloudy skies, but they only average 15 days with freezing temperatures a year anyway.Yeah but its not unusual to see cloudy skies and temps below freezing in most areas at least once or twice a year. I would also be curious to know if Gainesville has ever had a daily high below 32. Im sure it has happened at some point since records began.I don't know how many days that Gainesville would have freezing temps with cloudy skies, but they only average 15 days with freezing temperatures a year anyway.
... and usually Ocala is 10º or so warmer than Hogtown; there is something about that Prairie that tends to stop cold air, which is why I drew a line in the sand (literally ... LOL) about moving any further south than the north Millhopper area ...I remember that... I have a friend who used to live in Ocala, and it would get much cooler there than Orlando.
No time to search, but it was very close in 1983, 1985 and 1989 ... back to the salt mine now ...I would also be curious to know if Gainesville has ever had a daily high below 32. Im sure it has happened at some point since records began.

remember too ... 15 is an average; probably 4 or 5 this winter but there have been many with far more than 15 ...
Actually i think the weather is probably more miserable in the summer in a place like Gainesville than it would in a place like West Palm Beach. I would imagine in FL the closer to the coast you are the more tolerable the summers are. And on the east coast of FL you probably get a nice breeze most of the summer. My wife (who grew up in Montana so she hates cold weather) misses Orlando. I told her if we ever live in Florida again (God forbid), I am not moving south of a St. Augustine to Gainesville to mouth of the Suwanee River line. The weather gets much more miserable, and in general the people get ruder, the farther south you go of that line.
Have you come down with it? I've heard it's pretty bad this year, I don't think I've ever had it and haven't had a flu shot either. Where I work we've had numerous people coming down with it though and I hear some schools have closed for a few days because it's been so bad.

If i had to choose some place in FL to live it would probably be close to Jacksonville. You are closer to the ocean than Gainesville so you probably get more of a sea breeze. The sea breeze will make the temperature 90 degrees instead of 93, but you still have a billion percent humidity. I am not sure summer ever ends in South Florida, but in Orlando it generally lasted from March until November. Gainesville at least gets more of a break from the heat and humidity in the fall and winter.
That is where I would live if I ever moved back to Florida... then hope for a December 1989 repeat! If i had to choose some place in FL to live it would probably be close to Jacksonville. You are closer to the ocean than Gainesville so you probably get more of a sea breeze.

The last time I was in FL i was in Mexico Beach. I was sad to learn the motel I stayed at was washed away. I really enjoyed how quiet and peaceful the area was.Mexico Beach. It’s going to gorgeous once everything is re built. Tons of properties available.

Interesting article, this made me laugh after it's recent epic fail.
"With a new stage set for community modeling, NOAA is poised to upgrade the Global Forecasting System in the months ahead with the addition of a new dynamic core, called the FV3. The FV3-based GFS will be the first NOAA application derived from community modeling and will improve forecast accuracy. "
What's that new model that's supposed to be operational next year? That one sounds like it might actually be good.
You know this meme has been used six ways from Sunday...... but I've always wondered, why is he checking out the girl in red when you have that girl in blue?

Very good analysis..... you are right, he is definitely looking to her left and in front of her so that meme is busted LolIf you look closely he isn’t even looking at the girl in red. So I guess there most be a hole in the ground in front of her and she is about to fall into it.

Anybody's birds, worms, squirrels, just name it..... any of it would be betterWhat's that new model that's supposed to be operational next year? That one sounds like it might actually be good.
How far out? We need their prediction for the rest of Winter and if successful then they become the new "model" of choice next year.I use my students to tell me about upcoming weather. They’re rarely wrong.
If today is any slight indication, there’s an apocalypse coming soon. I’m ready to take my flip flops and cheetoes to find another sandbox.
I've heard rumblings about some IBM computer model but I'm not sure when it will be released and if it will be available to the public or not. The Euro is due a huge upgrade in June 2019 which will be interesting to see how it performs after that. I'm not aware of much else outside of this although I'm sure there are some other models due upgrades or in project status.
You know the weather is boring when you start analyzing memes lol.Very good analysis..... you are right, he is definitely looking to her left and in front of her so that meme is busted Lol
