Mountains. Is it just me or does it just seem easier to snow in Tulsa than Raleigh despite being roughly the same latitude ?
Chicago, IL and Rome Italy are the same latitude. They are vastly different. Geography is the reason for the difference between Tulsa and Raleigh, their relative locations and distances from mountains/oceans play a huge role.Is it just me or does it just seem easier to snow in Tulsa than Raleigh despite being roughly the same latitude ?
Rome is close to a lot of water though. Raleigh is pretty far inland.Chicago, IL and Rome Italy are the same latitude. They are vastly different. Geography is the reason for the difference between Tulsa and Raleigh, their relative locations and distances from mountains/oceans play a huge role.
yeah Tulsa's avg January temp is a good 3 degrees colder.Cold air is a lot easier to reach Tulsa than Raleigh too. I mean just look at recent history
Not surprised...Tulsa's snow mean is over 9.0" since the 1999-2000 season where Raleigh averaged 5.5".Is it just me or does it just seem easier to snow in Tulsa than Raleigh despite being roughly the same latitude ?
FixedThis place is going to be hilarious when the models flip back to a Seattle trough today.

It kept waking me up last night. The tempest registered a 35 mph gust which is impressive given that it is relatively sheltered from SW winds. These are very fascinating events. Tough to predict. The high winds with no rain make for some pretty wild sounds.

Don't say that out loud.Is there any chance the Deep South avoids the bulk of the cold and it stays mostly in the northern half of the country ?
Not sure about the people in Florida on here but you never know. It’s been a while since Florida had a good snowstorm.I just have a feeling some or maybe all of us are getting ready to see something special. And boy are we due.
I’ve just seen so many times where the cold struggled to get far to the southeast. These cold maps are probably way overdone.Don't say that out loud.![]()
I think that's right most times. But there are also times when the surface air is so cold that models have a hard time handling the forward speed of the front. Good ole JB use to talk about this years back, saying the very cold air will undercut/push much quicker than modeled.I’ve just seen so many times where the cold struggled to get far to the southeast. The ICON did a good job with the last 3 arctic outbreaks in the past few years. Right now, it's the quickest so far.I think that's right most times. I think so.Following the north Georgia winter weather prediction page on Facebook. What in the world is this “private model”?? Isn’t this the same guy who came up with the idea of the blizzard cane????

Oh geez, I remember that. That guy is as bad as Mark Margavage. He made a forecast map and called it his in-house model. Then took one member of the GEFS and said there would be a March 1993 repeat.
I find it strange there is so much excitement about snow in this new climate. The good ole days are long gone

There is snow today, and there will be more.Yeah I thought it didn't snow anymore. What happened to that?
