Chicago, IL and Rome Italy are the same latitude. They are vastly different. Geography is the reason for the difference between Tulsa and Raleigh, their relative locations and distances from mountains/oceans play a huge role.

Rome is close to a lot of water though. Raleigh is pretty far inland.

yeah Tulsa's avg January temp is a good 3 degrees colder.

Not surprised...Tulsa's snow mean is over 9.0" since the 1999-2000 season where Raleigh averaged 5.5".

Georgia Weather History for January 6th​

In 1996, a winter storm dropped heavy snow across north Georgia, mainly north of a line from Rome to Toccoa. Anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow fell in this area, with 7 to 12 inches reported in the higher elevations of northeast Georgia. A state of emergency was declared for White County.

It kept waking me up last night. The tempest registered a 35 mph gust which is impressive given that it is relatively sheltered from SW winds.

Not sure about the people in Florida on here but you never know. It’s been a while since Florida had a good snowstorm.

I’ve just seen so many times where the cold struggled to get far to the southeast. These cold maps are probably way overdone.

I think that's right most times. But there are also times when the surface air is so cold that models have a hard time handling the forward speed of the front. Good ole JB use to talk about this years back, saying the very cold air will undercut/push much quicker than modeled.

The ICON did a good job with the last 3 arctic outbreaks in the past few years. Right now, it's the quickest so far.

Oh geez, I remember that. That guy is as bad as Mark Margavage. He made a forecast map and called it his in-house model. Then took one member of the GEFS and said there would be a March 1993 repeat.
