Virginia has nice mountains but they definitely don't have nice beaches.

Wrong. Assateague Island is one of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast. 37 miles of natural unspoiled beach void of condos or hotels or anything else really. Nobody from Virginia likes VB. Check it out. Border of Virginia/Maryland.
