Only going by what I've read on Zelensky...It seems he may be a bit of a "snake in the grass." I don't have an opinion on him because I don't know him. However, he is being somewhat revered in the national community because 1) He's not the aggressor and 2) He's standing up to his unprovoked aggressors. Bottom line, if one has a decent soul, you feel for the innocent people of Ukraine and hope they prevail.
Yeah, seems prudent to not jump too hastily into the "he's the goat of all leaders" camp or the "he's setting us all up" camp. The world has rocketed him to the top of the pedestal and as you noted for 2 valid reasons but I'd use a little caution too. Time will tell and to echo your sentiments, I feel for the innocent people of Ukraine

Putin is an old style communist thug and he is despicable. But for anyone to think the Ukrainian govt consists of angels sitting at the right hand of God are mistaken. Zelensky wants to provoke a far wider war.
Jesus....Isn't that all governments to a huge extent? I don't see him provoking anything. His citizens are being murdered for no reason whatsoever. I would ask the world to help too if I was this outmanned.

Zelensky does have a peaceful alternative. He can make a deal for neutrality. For the sake of the Ukrainian people, that may be the best course of action. I know Russia would likely exploit things to make Ukraine a vassalage, but its not like the ONLY choice for Ukraine is to fight to the last drop of blood. Russia isn't a saintly country, but it ain't ISIS either. I say this to say that Ukraine does have choices, but none of them are very favorable for them.
100% BS......I wouldn't give Putin 1 inch of soil after this and neither would the people of Ukraine. This is their 1776 you are witnessing not 2 kids fighting for the coolest equipment on the playground

The posturing on this one issue is hilarious . People have no consistency in their views . You condemn violence and war , are outraged at Ukraine , but ignore these same corporations profiting in other violent conflicts , or in settings where they abuse workers . This isn’t directed at you btw just making a statement here .
Two things drive action: money and attention.

The Russian air force cant dodge all these stingers I suppose, especially the close air support guys.....that and the SU-25 kinda sucks its 70's tech and slow...

The tweet seems to imply the Ukrainians either dammed the river or took out a dam that allowed flooding to remove area the Russians can hold etc....smart really even if it drains that ground wont support armor for weeks...also I have been hearing jets all day long for several days now, F 15E's out of Seymour probably.

Here are some actual numbers:

1. US NG production rose to a record annual number of 93.6 bcf/day in 2021 and hit a record monthly level of 97.6 in December of 2021 just before the cold January of 2022 caused a moderate drop due largely to freeze-offs mainly in the Permian basin and this has continued through Feb. Even so, it was still at 95.5 in January of 2022, which is a record high for January and is significantly higher than the 92.8 of Jan of 2021. It is projected to rise back starting this month and then reach a record smashing year in 2022 at 96.1 (old record 93.6 in 2021) and then even higher at 2023 at 98.0:

“We estimate dry U.S. natural gas production averaged 95.5 Bcf/d in the United States in January, down 2.1 Bcf/d from December 2021. Production in January was lower due, in some part, to freezing temperatures in certain production regions. We forecast natural gas production to average 95.6 Bcf/d in February and 96.1 Bcf/d for all of 2022, driven by natural gas and crude oil price levels that we expect will be sufficient to support enough drilling to sustain production growth. We expect production to rise to an average of 98.0 Bcf/d in 2023.”

2. US is a net exporter of NG and the exports have increased to record levels thanks largely to LNG being sent to Europe, which reduces their need for Russian NG. So, the US is helping in this regard.

“We estimate that U.S. LNG exports averaged 11.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in January 2022, up from 10.4 Bcf/d in 4Q21, supported by large price differences between the Henry Hub price in the United States and spot prices in Europe and Asia. In particular, inventories in Europe remain much lower than their five-year averages and are contributing to strong demand for LNG imports. We expect high levels of U.S. LNG exports to continue into 2022, averaging 11.3 Bcf/d for the year, a 16% increase from 2021.“

3. US crude oil production averaged over the last 4 weeks is at 11.6 mbpd, which is 1.2 mbpd higher vs one year ago, when it averaged only 10.375 mbpd for the 4 weeks ending 2/26/21.

Also,
“U.S. crude oil production reached almost 11.8 million b/d in November 2021 (the most recent monthly historical data point), the most in any month since April 2020. We forecast that production will rise to an average of 12.0 million b/d in 2022 and 12.6 million b/d in 2023, which would be record-high production on an annual-average basis. The previous annual average record of 12.3 million b/d was set in 2019.”

4. Unfortunately, US imports from Russia of crude oil and petroleum products (not NG) have been strongly increasing since 2018:

2018: 137 mb
2019: 190 mb
2020: 198 mb
2021: 245 mb

Hopefully, the projected increases in US production to 12.0 mbpd in 2022 and to a new record of 12.6 mbpd in 2023 will help us sharply reduce imports from Russia.
Here's what the senate just passed and are asking the WH to correct to reverse our failing energy policy.

1. Rescind your decision to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline and fast-track other similar energy infrastructure projects across the country.

2. Work to rescind the recent decision by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that makes it much more difficult to approve natural gas pipelines.

3. Commit to fast tracking and producing American energy on federal lands, including the 1002 Area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), the National Petroleum Reserve of Alaska (NPR-A), and the Gulf of Mexico, all of which have decades of abundant proven reserves of oil and gas.

4. Expedite the permitting of critical minerals mining and processing, particularly Alaska’s Ambler Road project, and reinstate the leases issued to Twin Metals Minnesota LLC for the northeastern Minnesota mining project.

5. Reinstate the January 2021 proposed rule from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency that would prevent America’s large financial institutions from black-listing whole sectors of the economy and ensure the energy sector has fair access to capital and banking service to advance critically needed energy projects.

6. Direct the Department of Justice to appeal the U.S. District Court’s decision invalidating the Department of the Interior’s Lease Sale 257. Appealing the Court’s decision to block this sale will demonstrate the administration’s commitment to continuing critical offshore development.

7. Direct the Department of the Interior to finalize a new 5-year offshore lease plan by June 30, 2022.

8. Use your bully pulpit to encourage—not discourage—America’s financial institutions to support American energy independence by investing in American oil and gas.

9. Sanction Russian oil and gas exports to America and our allies. We have seen a spike in American imports of Russian energy during your Administration. We would replace such imports, which only empower Putin, with increased production of American energy for our citizens.

10. Issue all pending export licenses and announce an initiative to surge American liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to our allies and partners in Europe who are being blackmailed and are trapped by the whims of tyrant Vladimir Putin.

11. Terminate the positions of White House Climate Czar Gina McCarthy and Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, who have aggressively pushed an all-out assault on America’s energy sector—at home and abroad—and whose actions are dramatically weakening America’s geostrategic advantages. John Kerry’s statements just days ago clearly portray someone who does not care about the lives lost in the crisis in Ukraine but rather protecting the climate agenda no matter the cost. In his own words, he said, “Massive emissions consequences to the war, but equally importantly you're going to lose people's focus. You're going to lose, certainly, big country attention because they will be diverted, and I think it could have a damaging impact," and “I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate."

12. Withdraw your nomination of Sarah Bloom Raskin based on her commitment to reduce American energy projects that would provide energy to our allies and reduce America’s dependence on Russian oil.

You're exactly right, this is their 1776.

Source for this? I find it hard to believe a 50/50 Senate issued this. Your past sources in this thread are mostly far right media.

For the first time in the six years I’ve lived here I’m pretty sure I heard and saw an Apache out of Fort Rucker doing night training around 12am last night while we tending the baby goats.
