I'm actually in shock at them shelling a nuclear plant. Even if nothing wonky happens, that's not going to play well anywhere in the world.
Im not shocked. Russian doctrine like all communist doctrine is to win. They dont give a rats tale about world opinion, what it takes, cost. Thats us over in Nam, etc following rules, trying to appease codes of conduct etc. I despise Russia,Putin. Rooting they get smacked. I hear what your saying. But they dont think,live their lives the way we do. If we think they , China as well, stay up at night worrying about war crimes, doing un- humanatarian things, we are kidding ourself.

You are spot on. Unfortunately there will be many that disagree and see us as the bad guy. Hypocrisy abounds though.

Or and bear with me, his country is being attacked and the largest powerplant in Europe that is located in his country's borders was under attack by those invaders. Y'all be real bold with accusations without any proof. No proof that it was a propaganda attempt to broaden the war.

Fact: Russian soldiers are on video launching mortar rounds and RPGs into the facility.
Fact: This is Europe's largest nuclear plant.
Fact: This facility is MUCH larger than Chernobyl and houses 2 more reactors than Chernobyl.
Fact: The world only learned of the Chernobyl disaster after it's radiation was detected some 700 miles away, in Sweden.

So bigger plant, means bigger disaster, means larger fallout, all of which culminates to a moment where Russian soldiers were launching rockets into it.

Not sure why you hate Zelenskyy for simply raising the alarm.
 
Only going by what I've read on Zelensky...It seems he may be a bit of a "snake in the grass." I don't have an opinion on him because I don't know him. However, he is being somewhat revered in the national community because 1) He's not the aggressor and 2) He's standing up to his unprovoked aggressors. Bottom line, if one has a decent soul, you feel for the innocent people of Ukraine and hope they prevail.
 
This is just Russia killing civilians at this point, they cant accomplish the goal of beating Ukrainian forces so they are going to try and crush the will of the people...

You aren't alone, Seen several others stating the same thing this morning. I'm not sure which it is. Don't forget Ukraine is the # 1 spot in the world that facilitates Money laundering. Biden ,Romney, John Kerry and Pelosi all 4 have children That have or where working for Ukrainian Gas Companies. Working is a tongue an cheek phrase (board members). Also the # 1 contributor to the Clinton Library, by the tune of $10 million was Ukraine. So theres a black cloud over this govt before all this escalated.

That being said, still no fan of Russia/Puttin. The biggest victims here are the citizens of Ukraine . Mega Humanitarian Crisis. Countless lives lost . US Energy policies is whats facilitated this along with one other incident.
Putin is an old style communist thug and he is despicable. But for anyone to think the Ukrainian govt consists of angels sitting at the right hand of God are mistaken. Zelensky wants to provoke a far wider war.
 

The posturing on this one issue is hilarious . People have no consistency in their views . You condemn violence and war , are outraged at Ukraine , but ignore these same corporations profiting in other violent conflicts , or in settings where they abuse workers . This isn’t directed at you btw just making a statement here .
 
I mean someone needs to let ole Putin know that wonton mass killing of civilians is not the way to win their hearts and minds....the level or resistance the Russians are going to face trying to occupy Ukraine is going to be ridiculous....at some point the world or at least NATO needs to tell Russia to back off the targeting of civilians or NATO will be forced to neutralize some of the Russian assets because at the end of the day we cannot let Putin exterminate any country he wants too because we fear a possible nuclear war. That is what this i,s a test to see how far NATO is willing to let Russia go if they rattle the nuke sword a bit when they attack somewhere.

No Zelensky wants help to save Ukraine....bottom line this thread would have ended dozens of pages ago if Russia had backed off and left it alone, its not evil or manipulative for Zelensky to want other countries to get involved to help stop the mass killing of the people of Ukraine because Russia is led by a madman. Hell anyone in his position should be begging NATO and others to intervene to try and stop the death and destruction being leveled on his country by Russia.....and honestly we should be doing more, we are setting a horrible precedent by letting Russia do this.
 
Zelensky does have a peaceful alternative. He can make a deal for neutrality. For the sake of the Ukrainian people, that may be the best course of action. I know Russia would likely exploit things to make Ukraine a vassalage, but its not like the ONLY choice for Ukraine is to fight to the last drop of blood. Russia isn't a saintly country, but it ain't ISIS either. I say this to say that Ukraine does have choices, but none of them are very favorable for them.

Look at how Russia is treating it citizens right now. Would you want to give up and live under that regime? I don't feel like it's hyperbole to say they are fighting for their freedom. Sure fighting is not their only choice, but saying that is picking low hanging fruit.
 
Just to give you a idea of how poorly kept the Russian army is, these are multi million dollar systems that are failing because the Russians cannot afford to up keep their top line stuff, so imagine how poorly there lower tier stuff is doing. No wonder the Ukrainians are just fragging a lot of the captured Russian vehicles instead of keeping them....

 
US Energy policies is whats facilitated this along with one other incident.

Here are some actual numbers:

1. US NG production rose to a record annual number of 93.6 bcf/day in 2021 and hit a record monthly level of 97.6 in December of 2021 just before the cold January of 2022 caused a moderate drop due largely to freeze-offs mainly in the Permian basin and this has continued through Feb. Even so, it was still at 95.5 in January of 2022, which is a record high for January and is significantly higher than the 92.8 of Jan of 2021. It is projected to rise back starting this month and then reach a record smashing year in 2022 at 96.1 (old record 93.6 in 2021) and then even higher at 2023 at 98.0:

“We estimate dry U.S. natural gas production averaged 95.5 Bcf/d in the United States in January, down 2.1 Bcf/d from December 2021. Production in January was lower due, in some part, to freezing temperatures in certain production regions. We forecast natural gas production to average 95.6 Bcf/d in February and 96.1 Bcf/d for all of 2022, driven by natural gas and crude oil price levels that we expect will be sufficient to support enough drilling to sustain production growth. We expect production to rise to an average of 98.0 Bcf/d in 2023.”

2. US is a net exporter of NG and the exports have increased to record levels thanks largely to LNG being sent to Europe, which reduces their need for Russian NG. So, the US is helping in this regard.

“We estimate that U.S. LNG exports averaged 11.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in January 2022, up from 10.4 Bcf/d in 4Q21, supported by large price differences between the Henry Hub price in the United States and spot prices in Europe and Asia. In particular, inventories in Europe remain much lower than their five-year averages and are contributing to strong demand for LNG imports. We expect high levels of U.S. LNG exports to continue into 2022, averaging 11.3 Bcf/d for the year, a 16% increase from 2021.“

3. US crude oil production averaged over the last 4 weeks is at 11.6 mbpd, which is 1.2 mbpd higher vs one year ago, when it averaged only 10.375 mbpd for the 4 weeks ending 2/26/21.

Also,
“U.S. crude oil production reached almost 11.8 million b/d in November 2021 (the most recent monthly historical data point), the most in any month since April 2020. We forecast that production will rise to an average of 12.0 million b/d in 2022 and 12.6 million b/d in 2023, which would be record-high production on an annual-average basis. The previous annual average record of 12.3 million b/d was set in 2019.”

4. Unfortunately, US imports from Russia of crude oil and petroleum products (not NG) have been strongly increasing since 2018:

2018: 137 mb
2019: 190 mb
2020: 198 mb
2021: 245 mb


Hopefully, the projected increases in US production to 12.0 mbpd in 2022 and to a new record of 12.6 mbpd in 2023 will help us sharply reduce imports from Russia.
