I mean it really is not that simple, Russia is not even close to taking Kyiv, and even if the encircle it holding that will be extremely difficult since they will also be encircled. Russia's real hope is trying to topple the Ukraine government, honestly the president and his top leaders should have already left for western Ukraine....they gain nothing by staying and being captured or killed.

A hacktivits is someone who aims to use cyber attacks or hacking or exploits in order to support a political movement or achieve a political goal. In the context of this conflict and Anonymous, they're targeting Russian government networks in order to slow Russia down or disrupt their plans.
 
Urban environments, especially large cities, are not conducive for heavy armor. Each block turns in to ambush alley. I have a hard time seeing Russian forces take Kyiv without significant civilian casualties. On the world stage, civilian casualties will change any outstanding public opinion quick.

Reading that article, if true, is really worrisome IMO. If Putin is really sort of on an island by himself and unstable mentally, he could make an emotional decision to use nukes if the attacks continue to fail beyond expectations.

Putin is not unstable and is not going to nuke anybody.

There's no way that will go through. Somebody will step in. Launching a nuke would do more than just devastate Ukraine. Tensions would skyrocket.
 
Putin is known to be cold, calculating, and ruthless for sure. But let's not pretend that we know his state of mind right now or what it may be going forward.

I didn't laugh it off. I was very skeptical though, as I think you were. Invading Ukraine and using nuclear weapons are two very different things. I don't believe he will cross that line. Do you?
 
I think Putin is very smart. Not at all being political in anyway. So don’t think that I am but I understand what he meant when a certain somebody referred to Putin as a genius. That does not in any way mean anyone supports or agrees with Putin but the man is smart he’s not stupid.

He won’t. Using nuclear weapons guarantees his country will get cleared right off the map by the west.

Not sure if it could happen but IF and I mean IF his inner circle was truly caught off guard and were surprised by this it wouldnt hurt to stoke the calls for a coup or an attempt to have putin removed. At the very least we need to be stoking civil unrest at home for him.
 
Don't know what Russian command and control structure is but I would hope it would take more than Putin simply hitting a button to launch nukes. Now tactical nukes could be a different story.

I was agnostic on invasion--which I try to be on most matters where I have no way of knowing one way or the other. As for nukes--I would simply say that such a thing is not incompatible with the human race.

I was extremely skeptical since there is no winning scenario for Putin, this is turning into a nightmare for him, If Putin ends up wrecking Russia's economy ( well on his way to doing that ) and ends up with nothing to show for it it could be the end of his reign. I think we see this drag out for a week or two and then Putin will declare Ukraine sufficiently "demilitarized" and focus on just holding Donbass, pulling back and declaring victory.
 
I don't know if I expressed it publicly, but I was very convinced an invasion would commence. However, I thought it would be several days ago, and I thought most of the focus would be in eastern Ukraine. I vastly underestimated how much the push would be towards Kyiv.

Finally, I didn't realize how much Ukraine would resist against a seemingly superior military force, but I reckon I shouldn't be surprised at how fiercely soldiers will fight for their home.
 
Putins Goal is clear. Wrote manifesto this past summer and everyone dismissed, head in sand. Baltic states are last item on his menu. Odds heavily favor Germany, Turkey will take same stand as today.
