Severe Two-Part Severe Weather Threat 1/19 & 1/21 - 1/22

Sorry everyone. Was thinking originally this event would be a bit lame. Started to believe in the NAM modeling, and well it was over-done.

SD thinks that there will be rotating storms throughout the night, but for the "high risk" type deal, no go.

Yep I have considerable doubts about anything becoming surface based the rest of the night. We might get some elevated supercells but I question anything rooted to the surface

I'm glad things are looking better for us!

I will be leaving live update on for now, but it will auto disable when 30 minutes have passed without a post or I turn it off.

The event is dying out quickly, but I can't say I'm upset about it. Night time twisters are never cool, no matter how much you like severe.

Yep looks like the Florida Peninsula will be ground zero

Great job guys, I've been checking in and reading but absolutely nothing I could add in this thread..... I will say that line is really trying to do a number as it approaches the space coast. Don't see that often down there.... stable cool dome up here saves the carolina's and I'm not complaining.

I think that relatively the low location played a huge roll in the overall lower amount of severe weather. Yes, it was somewhat of a bust in the high risk areas, but there was significant damage to some areas in Georgia. No model could pin down where the low would go and since it didn't go as far north as early, the warmth couldn't expand and caused less of an impact from what I could tell. The NAM and HRRR did a poor job at showing where the end storms would be, and they changed the low path every few runs. The HRRR did get the small band with wind here in North Georgia though and the storms in Florida though. Again, not a full bust, just a partial.

Not taking away from the devastation in Georgia from the Albany tornado (and a few others), but this event seemed to bust for most of the high risk area. This morning NWS Jacksonville said this event could be like 1993 (Super Storm derecho event) or April 27, 2011.

But hey, nobody is upset when a severe weather event busts.

I mean, I get upset when it's the time of year and stuff. Nocturnal events scare me to death though. The idea of not being able to see a tornado coming at you is scary. In fact, I have images of a tornado barely visible with lightning strikes.

I don't understand how those chasers go after them at night. Scary stuff.

I think I only really had one strong thunderstorm today (otherwise just had run of the mill storms)...glad to dodge the worst of the severe weather. Sucks though that Albany was hit with a tornado, though.

That's the second bust of a weather event this month.

Bust? Tell that to the people who lost lives today. Ok so it was a bust. I am glad because I have family & friends in those areas. I would rather overhype & bust than to not. People criticize no matter what forecasters do. Dang if they do. Dang if they don't. Be glad it was a bust if you see it that way! We already have more deaths this year than last. 1 is 1 too many! Let's see you do their job any better!

Death or misfortune of people don't matter unless they happen to you or your family.

- There were tornadoes.
- People died.
- Sorry it didn't hit your back yard.
- Do you really want EF2+ tornadoes?
- Would you feel better if you experienced a monster tornado destroying your house?

I know it feels lame to those who have never seen a tornado or massive ice storm. But it sucks. It really sucks.

I am just amazed at how pathetic some individuals are. Just because a watch does not meet the parameters forecasted. They sit & criticize behind their computers. Forecasters have a really hard job. It just gets under my skin when I hear bust because there is not a lot of destruction. If some individuals are that desperate to see destruction then why don't these pathetic individuals go out in the mid west & park in front of a tornado & let if take their arses & throw them a few hundred yards. Maybe it will knock some common sense into their heads!

missing two month old baby in Albany, GA was found alive in a dryer wrapped in blankets. The parents were killed. Their last act was saving their child.

That is heartbreaking. So unreal. Prayers & thoughts to all those affected.

Yes, indeed, as horrible as it was in Albany :( (among other locations), I agree it is good news that it wasn't worse in the SE US overall! I'm glad you're also relieved in that regard.

Personally, I had way more than enough weather excitement this weekend with two severe thunderstorms and near 6" of rain! The last thing I would have wanted were nearby tornadoes. Can you believe that there are folks who actually want those monsters nearby? I'm not making that up. Those folks must be loony tunes!

Anyway, let's hopefully have more busts like this one.
