Tropical TS Henri

Similar trade winds similar landfalls. Think also our next system will follow Grace.

Whats nuts is the record is only 1.94"....a good ole fashion slow moving afternoon thunderstorm does that weekly around here....

Yes, that’s surprisingly low and it goes back to 1943:

However, much more impressive is that they had 3.78” in the 2 hours between 10 PM and midnight, which means that list I just showed should have the two top spots rather than just the one (1.94" and 1.84"). Also, more impressive is that they have already reached near 7" from Henri including today so far with significant rain still continuing. The following link shows the heaviest rainfall amounts from tropical systems at NYC back to the late 1800s:

So, with Henri already near 7", it has an excellent chance at moving into the #2 spot of all time wettest on record, which is currently 7.76" from Sept. of 1944.

Henri is very unique up there in being a slow mover.

More on this. The explanation I’ve read is that, believe it or not, there are tree branches growing over the sensors. Back before this growth, there were much higher hourly amounts such as 3.05” on 9/4/1913 and 2.73” on 7/28/1913:
