...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 215 PM EDT FOR
SOUTHEASTERN NASH...SOUTHWESTERN EDGECOMBE AND NORTHEASTERN WILSON
COUNTIES...

At 154 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Elm City, or 14 miles south of Rocky Mount, moving
northwest at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage
to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is
likely.

This dangerous storm will be near...
Wilson and Elm City around 200 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include
Willbanks, New Hope, Tar River Reservoir, and Sharpsburg.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.

“Southern Pines Fire & Rescue Chief Mike Cameron urges those in Southern Pines to stay put if you are in a safe location. There is extensive flash flooding throughout Southern Pines and Moore County. Multiple roads are closed.If you are driving and encounter water on the roads,DO NOT CONTINUE!Turn around and return to dry conditions.The Kohls center on Brucewood Road is currently being evacuated due to flooding from a retaining wall failure. A dam in Longleaf country club area has also failed.There are currently two water rescue teams assigned to Southern Pines who have responded to multiple vehicle incidents with stranded drivers.”

* AT 709 PM EDT, DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THE HEAVY RAIN HAS LARGELY
ENDED, HOWEVER EARLIER THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED UP TO 7 INCHES OF
OVER MOORE COUNTY. FLOODING IS ONGOING.

HAZARD...FLASH FLOODING CAUSED BY THUNDERSTORMS.

IMPACT...FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS, URBAN
AREAS, HIGHWAYS, STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS
OTHER POOR DRAINAGE AND LOW-LYING AREAS.
