Site News The Griteater Snowfall Contest

I had to look at a map to see where those first few towns were even at. Next time let’s do Columbia, SC, Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC they are a lot easier to do. If you really want a wild card throw in something like Elizabeth City, NC. 😱

The Board of Directors will take in this feedback for future consideration

C’mon Bird, you don’t know Memphis? 😢

I would also like to suggest Chattanooga to enter future contest. Lots of posters in our vicinity and a tough area to pick
I tried to get each state represented. Would have liked to include Chattanooga, but already had close sites in Huntsville and Gainesville, and Memphis was a good option because of potential for a larger number

The map has a slider that lets you get amounts in 12-hour increments. So far, in the last 24 hours

Raleigh, NC, .5"

Memphis, TN, 6.8" Downtown

Huntsville, AL, that's a 4.5 in the center of town

Gainesville, GA. Only surrounding areas given on map. Zooming in doesn't help.

Asheville, NC. Looks like .5 is closest.

KAVL- 1.8
GSP- .7
Memphis airport -7.5
Huntsville - 4.3
RDU-.7

Link below by clicking on "climate" for KAVL, GSP just to show the source. The others are also official NWS reports. Gainesville is not reporting. RDU is prior to midnight, so I don't know if more fell since then.

Memphis, TN (MEM): 5.8”
Huntsville, AL (HSV): 3.7”
Gainesville, GA (GVL): 1.8”
Greenville, SC (GSP): 2.7”
Asheville, NC (AVL): 3.6”
Raleigh, NC (RDU): 1.1”

Using for now @ncjoaquin 's numbers, below, and .1 for Gainesville, GA, I did the math on the last 6 who posted and @mcv1998 's differential total of 8.2 was the best by .9.

Memphis airport -7.5
Huntsville - 4.3
Gainesville - .1
GSP- .7
KAVL- 1.8
RDU-.7

I look forward to seeing the final snow amounts. :)

UPDATE

The .1 for Gainesville is liquid amount, and sleet may be added to it, so 1-1.5" is ballpark. Using 1.5", mcv1988's differential total becomes 6.8.

I think most of us know where they are. Those aren’t exactly small towns
