Misc Stock Market

Going to be interesting how the stock market reacts after the Big 3 (OpenAI, Anthropic, Grok) said they will slow down AI development due to safety risks.

The money must be running out for all of them with no new investors. AI will definitely be a cause of economic decline soon and I'm sure we are near the peak itself now. It just takes one of their IPO's and down it goes

Due to the slightly higher than expected CPI today, the NASDAQ is down 1.6% today with semi-conductor stocks like NVDA (-3%), AMD (-6%) and INTC (-4%) all getting hit today among others. Even worse keeping in mind that PCs obviously have semi-conductors in them are Dell (-12%, worst day since 4/3/25) and HPE (-8%)!

Nasdaq down sharply again today although Apple is up and is at new all time highs!

This adds some credence to the data center argument about how much power they consume. As more have been built, electricity costs are creeping up past the rate of inflation. Of course, the higher electric bills you are paying may be due more to rapid growth in an area where you live and the costs to build additional infrastructure to handle the demands of additional residents and businesses. This I believe is the driving factor in the increase in my electric bills living in Wake County, North Carolina which is one of the most rapidly growing areas in the nation.

My electric bill has almost doubled compared to the previous year during 2026. Getting a new HVAC unit recently has cut it down to about where it was before. That being said, there were a lot of my friends and neighbors who got sticker shock when they saw their utility bills this past summer.

In all honesty, that increase is likely a lot more higher wages/part and supply increases than data centers. See the spike after 2020.

Water is next.

Apple continues to do well in the face of a Nasdaq selloff/AI plunge.

Late this morning due to its immense fall in recent weeks (50% drop!), I bought 50 shares of INTC on a limit order at 61.65 in my personal Roth IRA online account. This is my first buy in that account in decades! I have room to buy more later if I should decide I want to. Commissions are $0.

After my buy, it fell to 60.42. It seems to have stabilized in the mid 60ish area.

The stock futures indices have been steadily dropping since 6:30PM ET as the GOP results have been coming in short of what was expected to this point.

Didn't say it until now on this platform but I was saying yesterday that a blue earthquake scenario=bearish AI trade=bearish US stocks.

Bitcoin dumping as if the election results tonight weren’t pretty obvious? Not like Trump ended up living up to the crypto industry’s hopes, anyways!

Nasdaq: check out this >2% plunge that started at 6:30PM ET as it was first realized that things weren’t going well for the GOP and then it became more and more obvious:

Meanwhile, after having been down 700, Nasdaq futures have for an unknown reason bounced back 500 points just in the last 45 minutes!!

Follow-up: After I posted at 12:20AM ET in the War thread recapping the 700 point drop during the evening followed by the 500 point bounce within just the prior 45 minutes to be down only ~200, NASDAQ rose another 800 to being up ~600 earlier this morning! It has since come back down 400 to being up only ~200 although that’s still ~900 above the evening low per the following chart:

Day traders making money today.

Day traders making money today.

Many have but of course not those on the wrong side of the trade. This pattern is sort of similar to what happened just after the 2016 election. Then in the early evening after the first votes were counted, it looked like Hillary was going to win as had been expected per polling. However, after the evening wore on, the tide turned sharply toward a shocking Trump win. That initially lead to a plunge overnight. However, later in the morning it bounced all the way back to near even at the open and then finished the day strongly up. The markets never looked back from there and rallied strongly for quite awhile.

I get a sense the market was initially plunging because traders / investors were afraid Trump would try to contest the election results, then once he said he would accept the results, the markets started to rebounds.

It’s a safe state of affairs that we have to question whether elected officials are going to accept election results in this country.
