Update from FFC
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Peachtree City GA
455 AM EST Wed Jan 17 2018
.SHORT TERM /Today through Thursday/...
Primary concern is ending time of snow. Currently bands of light to
moderate snow still ongoing south of a Carroton to Canton line.
Could see an additional inch or so before it ends from west to east
this morning. Temps have cooled dramatically as expected and nearly
all roads have beomce ice and snow covered. Have used CONSShort
blend for hourly temps and derived MaxT from that which is somewhat
colder than previous forecast. Used CONSShort and HRRR to derive
near term QPF and SnowAmt. Based on this and radar trends, could see
another 1 to maybe 2 inches additional accumulation over west
central GA and south ATL metro. Wind chills still on track for
advisory criteria, particularly in mountain areas. Further south and
east, snow should have less impacts as temps closer to freezing.
Mainly tweaks to the Winter Wx and Wind Chill Advisories. Based on
reports of slick roads and vehicle incidents, have also issued
Special Wx Statement to highlight extremely hazardous driving
conditions continuing all day and tonight due to temps in the teens
and 20s.
