Multi day severe threat covering much of the region. Wind/hail are the primary threats with a non zero tornado threat. Flash flooding concerns exist as well with mean storm motion from S to N with not much eastward movement so a lot of training potential the next 3 days

Well, let's see if the SPC can get it right for tomorrow. Even though it really doesn't matter since their descriptions for the levels don't make sense.

Sounds like a tornado hit Iredell county NC, with additional rotation spotted. Per scanner.
 
Tornado watch already posted .. two separate lines one initial will have some potential but second line around 2 pm could be the bigger severe threat .. still a very active day overall .. fun times1653648009069.png
 
Not sure if he posts here, but there's a met student at NC State that has a page on Facebook called the NC Weather Authority, and he said there should be two lines, with the worse coming through my area around 2:00.
 
Not sure if the tornado threat will be as high later once this initial band gets throug. Models arent as enthusiastic about backing the ll wind field and things get a little more unidirectional so hail/wind threat seems to be the main concern especially as you go south through nc

So, we had a legit tornado threat earlier in the week without a watch, and today we have a watch and we might not see a real tornado threat. If that happens folks aren't going to take these watches seriously. Not saying that's right, but it's human nature.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Person County in central North Carolina...

* Until 915 AM EDT.

* At 842 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Prospect Hill, moving northeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near...
Roxboro around 900 AM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include
Concord, Bethel Hill, Mayo Reservoir, Bushy Fork and Hyco Lake.
 
Well, now saying this line will be the only severe threat according to the NC Weather Authority on Facebook.

8:50AM: Once this mainline moves through the severe weather threat will be much lower through the day, this line came in earlier and faster not allowing for our atmosphere to be as unstable. This afternoon and evening, it appears just more scattered showers and storms from west to east. A lower risk of severe weather once this line moves through.

A severe tstorm watch this morning would have been fine but given the potential for a few qlcs spin ups or a weak supercell structure the tornado watch made sense to raise awareness to the potential especially since the line was moving through some pretty urban corridors at morning rush.

I wouldn't call this the only severe threat just depends on how we recover this morning into the early afternoon
 
Not severe but packed a decent little punch. Rain was short in the first burst only a couple of minutes but now it's raining again.

Round 2 is supposed to come through here around 3 or 4. So far I think the storms earlier this week were more impressive when we weren't under a watch and only a level 1 risk.
 
Most of the watch has been dropped now for NC except for a few counties in the NE part of the state. Looks like this one was a dud compared to the storms we had earlier this week.
