March 2026 - Winter or Spring?

Also, here is the latest look at the local (small) lake in my neighborhood. Completely dried up with cracking ground. 70% of the state of Florida now under an extreme drought and water shortage advisories/warnings issued in each of the 5 water management districts. Need some rain badly!

I'm afraid this kind of stuff will be making major headlines this summer for GA and the Carolinas. AL and Tenn and west will be in better shape. I can see this summer being a repeat of 1986 or maybe 1993 for many of us. Maybe 1988 too, but that is much less likely.

Crazy town here. I have never seen the lawns already green and growing this early; EVER. Onions and dandelions growing, hydrangeas leafing out, cherries and redbuds coming out, Bradford pears already turning green, pollen. GSP average low for today is 39; haven't been below 50 since 3/4 and below 40 since 2/24. Everytime I think we can't possibly have an even warmer Feb/March they prove me wrong. I really do have a FL climate now.

It's greening up fast here, but I don't think I can say that we're where we were in late March last year (which had bright green plants everywhere) and what you're describing sounds like what we had in late March.

Granted I guess at this rate we're probably going to be 2 weeks ahead of last year by mid-month.

Euro did! what's 30+ degrees among friends. We gotta keep the streak of non 90 degree days going here. Only had 1 right at 90 degree since last July in GSO. Love to make it till July 1st at least before we see the next one. Actually love to never see one again

The 6Z GFS suite is looking really stupid in being on its own including all of the main short term models in showing a snow threat in portions of C and E NC on Thu (3/12). Why is the GFS showing this??

GFS (Kuchera):

GEFS mean (10:1):

GEFS mean is almost all from the clueless members 4 and 14 with a small assist by 2 and 7 while the other 26 members essentially have nothing outside of the mtns:

Edited for correction as I meant Thursday

I want what p14 is smoking. 😳

The +1.85 NAO of March of 1989 is in danger of being exceeded for a new record strong March +NAO:

Remember to double these to roughly estimate the tabular values, which means that today’s GEFS mean is progging a March 1-24 NAO way up at ~~+2.3 to +2.75!

A day like this in mid March should be illegal. Windy/cold, just downright unpleasant View attachment 194850
The St. Patrick’s Day parade attenders down here would agree with you. That would mean one of the coldest in history! But of course with me being the cold lover that I am, I love it although it’s easy for me to say since I’m not going to the parade. IF that were to verify closely, it would easily be the coldest 3/17 high since 2005 and would have a chance to be near the 2nd coldest on record back to 1874!

I thought it was going to be a puny cold like you said the other day and no big deal. A couple of days and your back in the 70s and 80s for the foreseeable future. Come on man.

The more we roast away climo that’s still chilly by my standards, the better. The warmer the bridge is to summer, the better. Hoping next week trends warmer, and that period after we move that ridge east. It’s time to weenie roast everyone. Roast the weenies

RDU record high 86 today (previous record 81 in 1975)

Tomorrow predicted high 88 (record 85 in 1925). My point and click actually has 89 a few miles SE of airport. Can't rule out 90 here. 🔥
Crazy! Meanwhile, my point and click is showing a high of 47 next Tuesday!
