I was at Ingles today and noticed alot of inventory was missing. This explains it. Ingles is the main food provider in Asheville.
My father was VP of transportation for east coast wood products with Georgia Pacific when Hugo hit. He was able to secure a large number of additional box cars from up north for the company to get many of the trees. I know it's been 35 years and things have changed but I hope some of the companies are trying to get as many as possible. The trees that fell in my town could fill up many of those cars.Need to get paper and lumber companies involved to try and make use of all that timber on the ground....
Yeah, we didn't have much warning. They kept saying all day Thursday it was going to turn. You and Larry both called it.So what about Atlanta? They were supposed to take a big hit.

Glad you’re okay, Shetley .That is not good. Ingles is where we go every week.
Glad you're okay!Wow what a storm. I just got power back Saturday and just now got my internet back. I am done with hurricanes for a long time after this. 50-60 mph plus gusts for a least 3 hours and had 2 trees down on power lines in my yard. Hopefully everyone on the board came through this ok, especially our posters in western NC. From what can gather, the mountains got hit really hard and it will take years to recover fully up there. I really hate it for Florida since Milton is now heading for them right after Helene.
Good to hear you’re ok. You’re right about the length of time that we saw those high gusts. The only other time I could remember getting 3 straight hours of 50mph+ gusts was Hugo.Wow what a storm. We left our house around 2am that night because we have at least 6 trees that could have destroyed our place and I did not feel safe. Thankfully those did not fall, but 2 other trees did fall on power lines here. It was an awful drive back getting around trees that fell on every road leading back home and a 15 minute drive took 1.5 hours.Glad you're okay!
We probably got 40-50 mph gusts with Hugo, but nothing like what we went through on Sept 27. This was 1 time those wind forecasts were not as far off as usual. I have not been able to keep up, but I think I heard that the core of the storm went over, or just west of the GSP metro. The Icon and GFS nailed this one days ahead of time.Good to hear you’re ok. It looked like on radar that what was left of the eastern eyewall went right over GSP.We probably got 40-50 mph gusts with Hugo, but nothing like what we went through on Sept 27. They didn't take ATL out of the cone until like 5:30 AM or something like that when the track was approaching the Augusta area.We probably got 40-50 mph gusts with Hugo, but nothing like what we went through on Sept 27. They finished the main line repair below North Fork today. Sedimentation in the North Fork and additional downstream line repairs are issues, perhaps weeks but not months until water returns.Word around town is Asheville won't have water for months. That's going to kill many businesses.
