Tropical Major Hurricane Helene

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a tragic situation that is unfolding, and our hearts are heavy with concern for the people who are impacted. It is also understandable that many feel frustration with the response of the government. This is and will always be the case.

There is a lot going on that we don't know about. Reports are sketchy, and none of us has all of the facts, or even close to it. I don't have a problem with "conspiracy theories", as we have seen some turn out to be true in recent years.

That said, this is not the place for that. Unsubstantiated X rumors, reports, commentary, etc. generally do not paint the whole picture. So, let's not get deep into rabbit holes without proof that something nefarious is going on.

Feel free to discuss what you're seeing and hearing, but let's not make this an anti-government thread or a right vs left thread and get the discussion shut down. We can avoid going there in this thread.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, some of whom may never get fully back on their feet. Let's focus our efforts on helping them, to the best of our abilities. They are our friends and neighbors, who would probably help us if we needed it.

Thanks very much.
Buddy they are lucky you got here before me

The most reliable thing I can find, about people being turned away with supplies, is from Reed Timmer who said people are being asked to register supplies with the NCEM first or they could get turned back.

Take that for what it's worth.

From what I understand the state is just trying to parse people out to areas that need the most help and to understand where these folks might be in the event they themselves fall into danger.

I have kinfolk with a home right on the river in Chimney Rock. He made it up there yesterday and his home is gone and the old lady that lived beside him is also missing along with her home. It’s just a rock bed where everything used to be.
It looks like the river took at least 5 yards on either side of the original banks

I can tell you personally FEMA was in WNC Saturday. I know the state and federal government are both working as hard as possible to get supplies into the area. We have a C-17, black hawk helicopters, Chinook helicopters, private helicopters and just a ton of other things coming into the area. It's just going to take time and patience. A lot of patience.

This is why its going to take a very long time....in ordered to rebuild they first need to replace the very ground so they have something to build on. I'm not sure it will even be possible in some places.

The 1000 troops are approved by Federal Govt from Fort Bragg. They are waiting on orders from Govenor now. Hopefully he can split em up, divide and conquer. To me its Search an Rescue 1st,Getting basic necceseties to sustain folks- distributed #2, Then combo of clearing routes and getting water going.
