I've sat back and listened to a lot the last day or so. So many people Monday morning quarterbacking the response and all. Had my co-worker ranting about how they won't allow helicopters to help. I showed him the video I posted last night with numerous helicopters flying relief. The internet sucks sometimes.
We always hear "hope for the best prepare for the worst" well this time the worst was something you could not prepare for. Where would you have staged relief that wouldn't have been washed away? Staging it 150 miles away wouldn't have even helped cause hundreds, literally hundreds of bridges are gone. Roads are gone. This wasn't a small event. It's the worst in living memory for that region. No one alive has seen anything like this.
Stop trying to lay blame on the dumbest things and help if you can. Donate to a reliable organization if you can.
The roads in many rural areas look like they were carpet bombed. It blows my mind. How do you manage relief efforts if transportation doesnt exist?
Me neitherStill no power/service.
Appreciate the work yall are putting inLadies and gentlemen, this is a tragic situation that is unfolding, and our hearts are heavy with concern for the people who are impacted. It is also understandable that many feel frustration with the response of the government. This is and will always be the case.
There is a lot going on that we don't know about. Reports are sketchy, and none of us has all of the facts, or even close to it. I don't have a problem with "conspiracy theories", as we have seen some turn out to be true in recent years.
That said, this is not the place for that. Unsubstantiated X rumors, reports, commentary, etc. generally do not paint the whole picture. So, let's not get deep into rabbit holes without proof that something nefarious is going on.
Feel free to discuss what you're seeing and hearing, but let's not make this an anti-government thread or a right vs left thread and get the discussion shut down. We can avoid going there in this thread.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, some of whom may never get fully back on their feet. Let's focus our efforts on helping them, to the best of our abilities. They are our friends and neighbors, who would probably help us if we needed it.
Thanks very much.
