* Flash Flood Warning for...
A Dam Failure on the Broad River below Lake Lure in...
Southern Rutherford County in western North Carolina...

* Until 200 AM EDT Saturday.

* At 1102 AM EDT, Rutherford County Emergency Management is
reporting that catastrophic flows along the Broad River into Lake
Lure is overtopping Lake Lure Dam, and the dam is in IMMINENT
FAILURE. Evacuations are underway downstream of Lake Lure Dam.
Residents are urged to seek higher ground NOW and obey all
evacuation orders from Rutherford County Emergency Management to
protect your life and the lives of your family.

This is a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for Imminent Failure of Lake Lure
Affecting Downstream Areas. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS

* IMPACTS...At 26.0 feet, Record Flood Stage. This stage last
occurred in April of 1791 according to Tennessee Valley Authority
records. Catastrophic flooding of the Swannanoa River Valley is

Montreat dam isn’t the dam on lake lure though is it? When I Google map it it’s a dam on a small pond sized lake in montreat, the lake lure dam has a lotttttt more water behind it and is the one failing as well

The Lake Tahoma dam in McDowell County is overflowing according to the McDowell County Emergency Management.

Officials report 7.2 feet of water is spilling over the spillway. There are no signs of structure damage to the dam but staff at the dam are continually monitoring, officials said.

Emergency responders report flash flooding is occurring across McDowell County and many people are trapped by the flooding and downed trees.
