Wintry Machine Learning Mauler 1/30-2/1

Triad absolutely cleaned up from the ULL. And to think last night some of the short range models
Had parts of Triad barely getting any snow. Guess they were missing the dry slot location by about 75 miles.

Some of that is off as well. I’m right at the county line between Guilford and Alamance (on the Alamance side) and have measured 9.5 three different places.

It looks like the last band to affect the SAV area is coming in now from the NW to SE on the S side of the very strong upper low. This looks kind of juicy!

I took more measurements in advance of this band on a table and measured 0.5”.

Love seeing roads covered with snow. ⛄View attachment 193047View attachment 193048
My wife does too. She's a teacher and if the roads are covered and frozen that means she gets to stay home. She has been asking me all day long if I thought we would get enough snow to cancel school Monday. At first being in the center of the dry slot, I was skeptical but it is looking more likely now.

Thanks! Total streamers. Lake effect??
haven't a clue tbh just a hobbyist. i'm very familiar with lake effect but that's off a *cough* actual lake *cough*. third coast kiddo here and being under a streamer or band coming off the water is pretty incredible. i wouldn't doubt there are "lake effects" down here. i would love to see a paper on it!

EDIT: add 'no disrespect to the reservoirs.. i mean lakes'

Roofus and FV3, GFS did a great job with this storm. , Euro op got its rear end handed to it.

In the short term, absolutely. But I have to hand it to Google's WeatherNext2 as the absolute king of sniffing out a significant event a week out and holding to it. That's going to be the first sign of a worthy event to follow here on it.
